I am using an SX6036 in my homelab as my core and I'm out of space in my 12U rack. I am using 56GB ethernet for my virtualization servers, QSFP to quad 10GBe to sfp+, and even a 1GB sfp via a QSA adapter.

I have 2 IOT devices like my Phillips Hue hub that need 10/100 and don't have rack space to add another switch. Without ruining my organized rack and putting a small switch outside my rack, does anyone have any ideas on how to do 10/100 on the SX6036. I have tested the a GLC-T SFP with a QSA adapter which works for 1G but when I plug in a 10/100 device the link doesn't come up.

Thanks for the ideas.

Surprised a 1G device works plugging in via an adaptor to a QSFP+ port TBH ;)
That being said, do you have to force the speed down to 1G? My next thing to try would be forcing the speed down to 100Mb if you can.

Personally, tying up QSP+ ports with 100Mb devices is madness :p and I'd opt for some low power fanless (even unmanaged) 1G 8 or 12 port switch and just wall mount it. Alternatively for such low speed devices a wifi AP in client mode would be fine too.

I understand it madness and I've laughed at it several times, just for 2 hub like devices.

I did not need to force the speed down to 1G, seems like because the SFP was detected my test device (laptop with usb 10/100/1000 nic) at 1G it just worked. I did try to force the laptop side down to 100M but that didn't work either. I do have several smaller (unifi) switches that support 2x SFP that I could connect VIA a DAC at 1G. I just don't have any good place to put it.

Alternatively I could move the IOT hub to a managed 10/100/1000 switch in my living room and just change the vlan for those 2 ports. Then I hate that part because my core stuff isn't near the core.

Regardless we have to make due with what we can.

Less than 1G didn’t work for my SX6012, I think it’s just not supported by the switch, transceivers are capable.

How about plugging both hubs into ethernet ports on your server and bridging the network connections?
