Male to Female SATA Cable for SATA DOM devices?

Anyone ever successfully used a male to female sata cable with a DOM device when they weren't able to squeeze the DOM in because it wouldn't be physically possible to plug in due to some adapter card or otherwise?

Talking about something like this but much, much shorter.

Not sure that would work.
Do the special DOM ports have the same pin number and just provide power through an existing pin or do they have separate power pins?
