Mainboard Gigabyte MZ72-HBO and SSD U.3

Hi,

Due to lack of availability I can only find one SSD for my workstation but in U.3.

I have a Gigabyte MZ72-HBO motherboard, could I use this type of SSD with a simple Slim-SAS to OCuLink cable (SFF8639)? Instead of a U.2 drive?

According to the specifications u.3 ssds should be backward compatible with u.2 cables & backplanes (but u.2 ssds not with u.3 cables or backplanes!)

Thank you for your feedback. I'm coming to the same conclusion but at over $2000 for an SSD, I'd like to be 100% sure of the compatibility.
