LSI SAS9200-16e vs LSI SAS9201-16e

I see both of these cards cropping up on ebay. They seem to be both SAS2008 chip as far as I can tell, the 9200-16e has a lower power draw listed but not much, and they are certainly different boards. Is there any actual difference here? The SAS9200-16e is not listed in the LSI megathread.

the 9201 uses LSI 2116 controller! it is just newer version of the 9200
Thanks, so The 2116 is what controller exactly? There isn't a 2116 controller listed in the controller megathread, just a 2108 and a 2008. The 9201-16e in that thread is listed as a 2008 controller so it seems strange.

I would guess it is a 16-port version of the 2108 ? 21+08 = 21 revision 08 ports,, 2116 = 21 revison + 16 ports..

Thanks for the help here. I picked up 2 of the 9200-16e cards to drive two external 3U 16 bays eventually.

So, I got 2 of the 9200-16e and stuck them in my box. They are both detected as 2116 controllers. If these are the 2116 controllers what are the 9201-16e?

I happen to have a couple of the 9201-16e cards around. Under linux they detect as 2116 driven by the LSISAS2116 driver.

Thanks for the insight. I'm really confused as to the differences now. The 9201-16e is rated at more power draw than the 9200-16e, seems to be the only difference I can find other than the physical differences.

If that is the case different VRM could be the difference in power consumption but it's a bit much to just be that.

These cards came with an ancient v5 firmware on them. LSI site does not contain any support for this card. I was able to successfully flash them to v20 using the 9201-16i IT firmware and bios.
