I have a Gigabyte 12bay server (believe the model is R270-R3C) with a Gigabyte MD70-HB0 motherboard inside. I’m aiming to use for FreeNAS and as such looking to flash the LSI SAS 3008 controller to IT mode.

Has anyone done this on this motherboard, or are there any how to guides I can follow?

I have seen the guide for the IBM M1215, but I’m concerned as this is on the motherboard and not a PCIe card.

I see some article flash LSI 2008 onboad for supermicro MB, it was same operation. You could try and find out how it works.
I Just done flash a LSI 9311 card to LSI newer P16 FW.
Make a uefi shelll boot USB disk , save the storcli.efi and fw to it.
use the cmd from the m1215 article to run flash.

I got Asrock EPC621D4U-2T8R board with integrated LSI3008 controller and I flashed it exact same way. Took a few attempts tho
I figured out that you can attach msdos ISO over network and edit that ISO if you need to add files. Way easier then taking flash drive out and plugging into laptop.

It's been a while.. but i believe it was very straight forward. you just need to use the sas3flash utility instead of the sas2flash stuff. from memory, it was:

1) extract and write down SAS address or any other relevant info you want to keep
2) erase (-o -e 6?)
3) flash firmware/bios/uefi
4) write SAS address back (if necessary - i kind of recall I didn't need to do this)

by default, it is in IR mode I think, not MegaRAID, so it's a bit easier to crossflash.
