MSM 8.10-04 and SMART

Post #126 suggests that MSM version 8.10-04 will show smart data on drives. My M1015 is cross-flashed to 9211 IR mode and the smart enable is greyed out.

Do I need to flash to 9240 to get smart to work?

I changed the controller to IBM M5014 cross-flashed to LSI 9260-8i because I'm switching to RAID 5 using 4TB HGST drives.

I retrieved SMART data using HD Sentinel Pro which shows individual disks in the array.

raid-5 is insane with 4TB SAS drives. You might consider doing a 3-way raid-1 then stripe it (Raid 1+0).

I use raid-5 but i nest it with RAID-1 .

HP does the 3-way raid-1 with the new P420 (stolen from their itanium servers). It can reconstruct to a hot spare using 3 partially failing drives. real good stuff.

Biggest advice: Constellation/RE4 come with SAS for 10% more. Spend it. You will thank me down the road.

Anyone know if 3ware 9750-4i can be cross-flashed to some HBA?
The 3Ware stuff generally uses its own engine, so there isn't alternate-function firmware available. Most of the later 3Ware cards support both single-disk units (benefitting from controller cache + BBU) and unconfigured drive passthru. I've been using the 9650SE-16ML with 16 single-disk units (2TB each) in a zpool for over 5 years and have been quite pleased with them. In fact, when I do the "mid-life kicker" on my RAIDzilla II servers this spring (6TB drives, another 48GB RAM, other goodies) I'll likely keep the 3Ware cards as they are will-integrated in my chassis design ( I²C between the controller and the front panel with 3 LEDs per drive bay) and I like the online management tools the 3Ware controllers offer.

SAS2004 (PCIe 4x)
IBM ServeRAID M1110 (81Y4492) - LSI ??
Intel® RAID Controller RS2WC040 - LSI 9240-4i

SAS2008 based
SAS 6.0gbps, SATA 6.0gbps, approximately 9w of power consumption, PowerPC at 533MHz, no onboard cache, PCIe 2.0 x8 interface, supports SAS expanders (with dual linking), uses sas2flash utility to flash to IT mode (when possible).

IBM ServeRAID M1015 similar to LSI 9240-8i but the M1015 does not support RAID 5 and RAID 50 even when flashed to LSI 9240-8i firmware.
IBM ServeRAID M1115 newer version of the M1015
IBM 6 Gb Performance Optimized HBA (46M0912) - LSI-9240-8i (SSD enhanced)

Intel RS2WC080 looks identical to the LSI 9240-8i and IBM M1015, but supports RAID 5 and RAID 50 like the 9240-8i.
Lenovo 67Y1460 is a barely re-branded LSI 9240-8i.

IBM 6 Gb SAS Host Bus Adapter (46M0907) - LSI 9212-4i4e - 4x Internal SATA3 and 1x 4 SAS2 8088 external connector.

Dell PERC H200 ships with IT firmware but seems similar to the LSI 9211-8i
Dell Perc H310
Fujitsu D2607 - 9211-8i ?

IBM ServeRAID M1115 newer version of the M1015 ?

SUN SGX-SAS6-EXT-Z (p/n 375-3641) - LSI 9200-8e
SUN SGX-SAS6-INT-Z (p/n 375-3640) - LSI 9211/10-8i

Intel RMS2AF040 (Proprietary PCIe 4x)
Intel RMS2AF080 (Proprietary PCIe 4x) As above but 8 port
SuperMicro AOC-USAS2-L8iR - 9240-8i spec'd but with 16MB cache and RAID 5 but no RAID 1E has IR firmware (UIO Card!)
SuperMicro AOC-USAS2-L8E - HBA verion so most like a 9211-8i has IT firmware (UIO Card!)
SuperMicro AOC-USAS2-L8i - LSI 9240-8i spec'd no RAID 5 but does have RAID 1E has IR Firmware (UIO Card!)
Hey Patrick,

While I hate to dig up an old thread I noticed that the the Intel RS2WC040 is incorrectly listed on your chart as an LSI 2004 controller. This is not true as I own one myself and it clearly states both in the software, box, and on ARK that its an LSI 2008 chip. The Intel RS2WC080 which is the 8 port internal version is also an LSI 2008 chip.

Regards

I currently have an H800 Perc controller connected to an MD1200 Dell array. I get these warning codes every second and it's causing the LSI SNMP monitoring program to memory leak due to a bug with it alerting that frequently. Assuming it's due to non standard dell drives in the array. If I was to flash the H800 with LSI9280 firmware, would everything keep working and do you think the constant sense errors I'm getting will go away? In other words for the second part, would it not care about the drives assuming all the sense warnings I am getting is caused from Dell not liking the drives specifically.

Thanks
