I must have been blind on the re-listing unless it JUST happened, grabbed one to test, will be my first foray into 12Gbps LSI HBA's. Too many 2008 LSI's to count on both hands/toes :-D

The usage of the word Ports always throws me with these HBA/RAID cards. There are 2 physical Ports on this card and the specs list the following:

Internal Ports - 8
Data Transfer Rates - Up to 12Gb/s per port

I'm assuming the 8 internal ports refers to the fact that each physical port on the card support 4 lanes of data from 4 hard drives. Is this correct?

If so, then with this card we would be looking at a maximum of 48Gb/s (4x12) per physical port and 96GB/s (8x12) across both physical ports of theoretical bandwidth?

Finally, looking at the 9340-8i vs the 9341-8i the main difference seems to be the orientation of the 2 ports. On this 9340 card, they are located near bracket and are facing vertically. Whereas on the 9341 they are located near the rear of the card and are facing horizontally. Wouldn't it be easier to connect to the ports on the 9341 version of the card when using this in a chassis?

Is there any benefit for people with 6GB backplanes and 6Gb/s disks to using a 12GB controller? If I wanted to use these I'd need different cables (SFF-8643 to SFF-8087).

Beyond future proofing I'm guessing not so much. Although I've read the LSI 3008 has better deep queue depth peformance but not sure if that's relevant/true.

Anyone have good deals on SFF-8643 to SFF-8087 cables? I'll need to replace the Intel 730mm (AXXCBL730MSMS) cables. Equivalent would be the AXXCBL730HDMS, and they cost like $17/cable.

Are LSI brackets all the same spacing? I'll need to get a handful of the half height (low profile) brackets.
