Hi I'm a later-stage ops guy than many of the kids in school learning this stuff. What I lack in time, I have in funds to be able to get hardware.

I saw this article Optimizing a Starter CUDA Machine Learning / AI / Deep Learning Build and I'm really liking the design.

If the author is on these forums, you mentioned
It would be absolutely trivial to cut $600-800 off of the price of this build by using a lower core count Xeon D, using a smaller PSU and a single SSD or NVMe drive.
Can I have more details on that? I'm not against spending $1700 but if I can do this for $1000 that'd be nice.

I also would prefer a smaller case. That case the author is using looks very large for such a low power system. There's so much empty and wasted space.

Welcome to the forums @AI4me

I will likely do a follow-up article with this. But key points are using fewer SSDs, a smaller PSU, no Icy Dock and a lower end Xeon D platform.
