What's the reason to stick with 1U case? I would go with 2U, is space is not a problem.

At first I was going for a 2U but people were recommending 1U and 3U chassis. 4U is too big for me and just unnecessary overhead.

When choosing a chassis that comes with fans, does more fans mean = jet engine?

@snowflake not always. Usually 1U fans = jet engine (although there are a few quiet 1U chassis out there.)

I have two CSE-813MTQ-350CB cases, each with a LGA1150 board, (and a CSE-721 case, but that's a mid-tower) within ten feet of my bed. I don't even hear them other than the occasional spin up. That being said, I have a SYS-E300-8D that I can't put within 30 feet of me because it is so loud.

Bigger fans in 2U chasis will be more quiet. Airflow will be better also.
1U is compact, and it's grean when you have lots of servers and limited with rackspace.
