I've repurposed an old Thinkpad laptop as a home server for a few non-essential services like Plex. I'm noticing consistently high IO-delay so I'm looking to replace the consumer grade SSD boot drive.

There are some HP branded S3700 drives available on Ebay for what I think is a pretty good deal (200GB at $42.50 with shipping). I've read that some SMART data is not available in these HP drives though.

Should I proceed despite the missing SMART data? Is there another value oriented option I should consider instead?

You should stick with consumer SSDs for your laptop. Many laptops won't provide the required 12V supply (5V only) and it's going to put out more heat than a laptop is designed for.

I have an identical Thinkpad running two Toshiba enterprise SSDs without an issue for about 2 years now. Possible that the Toshiba's require less power or the Thinkpad is an exception?

Not all enterprise SSDs require 12V (my Micron ones don't) and they could potentially put out less heat. Your laptop might not have any issues at all however. What's the model on your Toshiba SSDs?

Looks like those are 5V only. Hard to say if the Intel ones will work without actually testing it.

My goal is really to answer two questions with this thread:
- Is there a better deal for a similarly sized enterprise grade SSD?
- What SMART information will I lose by choosing the HP S3700 / is it worth it?

I don't know what exactly was missing, I think host writes, wear out level and total writes were missing. The wear out level is probably the most important one.

At this point I would not buy S3700/3710, maybe s4600 or newer models.
