My favorite is the 2U, 24-bay Supermicro SC216 converted to a JBOD with the Supermicro power board and some PCIe SAS brackets - some photos were in the JBOD wiring and power board articles I put on STH some time ago. For SSD drives, you'd probably choose the non-expander backplane and put 6x SAS ports out the back. For spinning drives the expander backplane for the SC216 chassis is appealing.

If I were to build another one now, an HP dl180 G6 might also be appealing.

Lastly, Supermicro has some eight-bay and ten-bay 1U units that make good mini JBODs and can be found inexpensively. I once bought one for something like $150 and then sold the motherboard and heatsink, leaving me with a free JBOD chassis with redundant power.

Hi,

Anyone aware of any 1U and 2U DAS enclosures that will support SSDs (SATA III).

Thanks

New or used? How many bays? 2.5 inch only or are you fine with 3.5 inch bays and using adapters for the ssds?
