Can i use the cisco 3750 for this? Is this switch too loud to be inside a bedroom?
I just want something that is as quiet as a desktop computer/laptop.

thanks

Cisco does something magical compared to the other switch vendors, or do you mean a router?

I wouldn't pay for "fast" 100Mb ethernet anything today. (dumpster dive/free to a good home? perhaps)
A fanless hp 1810 24 GbE can be found fairly cheap as long as L2 is all you need: dead silent, low power/heat and rackable.

Fast ethernet is ok for poe camera and device switches. But not even fast enough for N wifi

you definitely want to skip any buggy swtiches with wifi. you get so many corrupt/retrans with wifi that the switch has to brunt all of the damaged packets/lost packets.

cut-through switching would pass that down the buffer (of switch), especiall hybrid switches (ingress: cut-through, egress: buffered).

Best to keep wifi completely switch isolated. I've seen some bugs get worked out (AKA switch crash) with some funky wifi connections :)

How about an SF300-24?
Thanks but its like $800...i dont know what is wrong with cisco seriously. And i am only trying to buy cisco because it sounds good on resume working with cisco switches and also a good way to prepare for the cisco networking certifications.
Really annoying seriously how they are expensive for no reason at all.

What about the HP v1910 24 port? Is that silent like the v1810?

I just bought a Zyxel Communications GS1910-24 which is a fanless design supposedly only using 18W of power. Not the GS1910-24HP which has a fan

For that price (AU$340 delivered to Australia) I don't think I could go wrong. Although from what documentation I've read the GS series doesn't have the 10GbE uplink that the XGS series does. The XGS series tends to sell for US$1500-$2500 for 24/48 port configurations and has fans in it too.

I guess it's all relative, but I didn't find the HP v1910-24G (JE006A) I purchased to be as quiet as expected, and I thought that the fan was quite loud even with the switch on "idle", so I returned it and purchased a (fanless) HP 1810-24G v2 (J9803A) instead. For my application I wanted something quiet that I could work beside and I found the 1810-24G v2 to be perfect !

Ok thanks.
Now anyone know of a cisco switch that is fanless as well that is 24 port? apart from the other one from above that costs $800 plus.
What about the catalyst series...they are all loud? 2960, 3750? anyone know how loud these are?

thanks

It says it is, so I guess so ;)
Ok got a video of the Cisco 3750 Powering up a Cisco 3750X - YouTube
it was loud at the power on but then became quiet...is the switch really quiet? does it depend on how many of the 24 ports are used? what if only like 10 ports used? how loud exactly is this when working?

I really want the cisco 3750 fast ethernet...and i am hoping it can be put on the desk in a bedroom
