I've been using the HP P411 SaS expander for years now, and just started migrating over to a larger chassis that is only low profile for the slots.
I'm looking for a new SaS expander that is low profile and supports up to 36-48 drives.
Thank you in advance!

The most common LSI chips used for SAS expanders are only 36 lanes, so you won't get that many drives out of one. The Intel SAS expander is low profile, though you would likely need right angle cables.

Multiple expanders usually. Having multiple HBAs is not necessary. With that many drives, you're normally looking at rackmount chassis and having SAS expanders integrated into the backplanes.

the AsTek would be perfect for my SC847 chassis... if I could find one for less than $300...
