From the Amazon listing:

- Runs ESX5.0 Native
- ESX5.0 Recognizes all 3 Network Card Interfaces
- Server was factory sealed with the IBM tape from china
- Fast shipping was nearly overnight and from Amazon distribution center
- These servers are discounted nearly 2/3 their full price
- Does not include Hard Drives or Drive Caddy's
- I installed ESX5.0 onto a USB and booted from the internal USB1 header on the motherboard
- RAID card is a LSI MegaRAID SATA/SAS 9260-8i 512mb

I like the USB header thing, that's good. Most IBM's we've gotten at work just have blanking plates, so if you want drives you need to order the sleds with the drives.

According to the model: 2594-A9U, it would seem to be an 8x2.5" chassis.

What I found odd, is that a seller (Taddwholesale) on eBay has sold two of these recently for ~ $350. At that price, I'd gobble them up, jeez!

resellers who sell enough lenovo get 50% off wholesale cost .

5 servers per quarter with 5-10 options each. (let's say this is a close guess since I can't tell you the exact figures). They are topsellers which make them cheap already. So yeah topseller minus 50% - throw in 10 10gbe nic's at half price to resell :) and sell them.

Does that price include drive caddies? If not how much are the caddies

Why not sell us STH'er a few at that price + a small markup?

1. It's not my forum.
2. End users are full of fraud, they ask too many questions, and definitely can't bother to go read the specs on lenovo.com ;)
3. Credit card fees 2-3%
4. #2 again, how much profit should I get if I had to deal with your issues? $100? lol.

With people that I know like DBA, Patrick, definitely, no risk.

But imagine that 2-4% profit on hardware (that's industry rate on commodity goods), if one fraud or return or clingy customer, I could lose an entire month of profit.

Does that make sense?

Plus the fact that I get it at half off doesn't mean I should sell it at half off? Why not trade it for something of equivalent purchasing/street value?

Or if someone wanted to buy my slightly used HP 2910al-24 + 4 sfp+ switches, or my HP 2920 kit of "4 inter-switch-mesh cards plus cables" - then I might throw in "deal".

Does that make sense? honestly I'm telling you straight up how it is. Please take no offsense

Just out of curiosity, do other server vendors do this as well? Or is this mostly a Lenovo thing?

Best way to get product into your hands (the customer) is by seeding units.
