Can confirm that in the p350 that switching to the x4 riser seems to allow x550-t2 to work. I originally had a stock x8, as I ordered the model with a GPU. Adding the x550-t2 in the x8 riser caused the system to hang and not boot.

I tried the tape mod and everything else I could think of. Thought that a x8 riser would work for a x4 card.

Just recently bought a p3 tiny gen 1 and gen 2. In my gen 2 it's the same thing. I have an x8 riser that I added the x550-t2 too. It did not fail to boot like my p350. But failed to detect the card in proxmox. I have a x4 riser orders and on its way that compatible with the p3 tiny gen 1 and gen 2s, 5C50W00909. Kinda of expensive.....I wonder if the older generation x4 risers would work on the newer p3 tiny gen 1 and gen 2s. I am just worried I'll try it and it will fry something.

For the x550-t2, I also 3d printed a bracket for the card and a shroud of an internal fan to help cool the nic. Untrusted store also sells kits which is awesome! They even have the models online for free!

I'm planning to make one, once receive the card (had to return one already, dell branded x710 as it prevented m720q from shutting down, ordered lenovo). But the plan is to have it together with shroud for fan, like i did here for this rtl8127 card to also cool the xgspon stick

xl710, not x710.

Anyways, I made a model for dual xl710 in Freecad. Not 100% yet, but pretty close. Happy to share if anyone wants to play with qsfp+ in a p340/m90q.

If yes, would there still be space to use whatever card on the PCIe slot?

I don't see why not, though you would be working with physical constraints since that slot only fits a 2230. As far as PCI interference goes, there is space inside the chassis for the port (especially if you choose a NIC with a ribbon cable, so you can move the port around inside). However, the back of the machine has quite limited space for ports. Most PCI cards will fill the whole space.

You could use a custom 3D printed baffle to give yourself room to pass a cable through into the chassis. Something like the USB passthrough version of this: https://www.printables.com/model/1130477-lenovo-tiny-baffle-library/

The M90q Gen 5 is one of the machines affected by the Tiny8 x16 riser issue mentioned here: https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...o-reference-thread.34925/page-153#post-503894

Since the riser part number you picked is a x16 one, and the card you intend to install is a x4 one, it will not work by default. You will either have to mask a pad on the CPU to get it to work (examples are available a bit further in the thread from the linked post), or use the x4 riser instead (part number 5C50W00909).

Cany anyone confirm that and what is the model of the P3 Tiny cooler?

If they are identical in size, I would like to install the 65W cooler for my mobile CPU in the m90q gen 5 to keep it cool and quiet.

One thing to keep in mind is that the x4 riser uses lanes from the PCH (instead of directly from the CPU like you get from the x16 riser), so it shares bandwidth with the rest of the ports and slots in the machine over the DMI 4.0 x8 link between the CPU and PCH. Since the 4-port 2.5Gb card isn't a particularly high bandwidth one I doubt you'll run into problems, but technically it could run into a bottleneck if you have 2 NVMe drives maxing out their slots at the same time.

The P3 Tiny and M90q Gen 5 share the same cooler part number for the 65W version, 5H40U93051. As far as I can tell probably all tinies with LGA1700 can share the same heatsinks.

That riser should work the same way as Tinyriser, which in my experience on the m720q will only boot from the slot in the riser if there are no other bootable devices in the system and PXE booting is *enabled*. On my machine after the PXE option rom exits it continues to boot from the riser NVMe drive, but if PXE booting is disabled it just doesn't find an operating system. This might be different depending on the bios version though.

Thanks. I've managed to boot from the wi-fi m.2 slot via cheap A+E to M adapter. It worked even without PXE, just so no other bootable things should be plugged in.

Hi, apologies for the query, but a bit out of my depth, having done OC/UV unlocks on at least 1 NUC and 2 different vendor laptops before,
but i now have a Lenovo M70Q Gen 2 (i5 10th Gen) and was looking to do my usual ThrottleStop thing, but when starting off on the same journey, i came across conflicting reports that these could only be OC/UV unlocked by physical chip access OR by doing the usual BIOS edit (which comes with some new stuff for me)


So not sure which is true for starters


On the BIOS front, i went to start on that path, but apparently it has a header (capsule) and in UEFITool the initial hex view reads:


AMIPFAT AMI_BIOS_GUARD_FLASH_CONFIGURATIONS


Just wondering if this is at all software fixable or hardware only


Not afraid to say out of my depth on this one


Any help/advice appreciated

As many members with M90q Gen 3 (P360) having the full 5C50W00910 riser with x710 nic, i was also having the same issue where the screen was stuck in lenovo boot screen. To test, I ordered the 5C50W00909 x4 card, and had to cut open the back side to make it accept the x8 card. Now, the x710 nic seem to be booting, and ASPM is also working and going to C8 in proxmox.

This is a SFP-10GM-T from FS.com, they actually leant me one of their FS-BOX-V3 units to recode it myself when it appeared that the Generic coded version wouldn't work. Not affiliated with them but I have been using their products for very many years and can vouch for their quality and the customer service too.

That’s really impressive customer service from FS.com. Being able to recode the module yourself with their FS-BOX-V3 is definitely useful when dealing with compatibility issues. I’ve also found that choosing a reliable supplier is important when working with networking hardware, especially SFPs, switches, and other infrastructure components. There are some good options available from networking hardware suppliers as well, depending on the equipment and compatibility requirements.

Okay, so i was trying to do the work before i got the unit itself - im a forward planner

But in this case that was impossible as the offsets for OC Lock and CFG Lock didnt exist in the downloaded and extracted .cap file

So last night when i got the unit i dumped the devices onboard BIOS with the Intel Flash Programming Tool

Only then when using UEFITool did i find CFG Lock and OC Lock, and when exported and extracted in verbose mode via IFRExtractor, the offsets were found and i had no trouble then booting my easy2Boot USB, and loading modGRUBShell, and issuing the setup_var_cv lines:

CFG Lock

setup_var_cv CpuSetup 0x3E 0x01 0x00


OC Lock

setup_var_cv CpuSetup 0xDA 0x01 0x00

as both did the somewhat usual thing of saying they didnt process what they expected, i then loaded RU.efi and double checked in hex at those offsets

Rebooted, turned off Memory Isolation in Windows 11, and ran ThrottleStop and all was unlocked as normal

Of course this was on the current BIOS version as recieved, and i know (as i have it) theres a BIOS update to do. I have seen the offsets stay the same post update, but you never know, so ill double check with a bios dump and UEFITool and IFR Extractor post update and note if they changed in case its useful to anyone else.

What seemed possibly daunting and involving my first potential use of a hardware programmer was in the end as easy as when ive done NUC’s and my laptops

Update: No change in offsets post BIOS flash, at least for me

How did you get this to boot from the M.2 name in the wifi slot? I have tried everything and it did boot once but can't get it to boot again from this slot.
