Hey everyone,

does someone got an idea how I could cool the NVMe SSD at the bottom?

I "modded" one of my 920q with an PCI-E Riser and a 10GBit NIC andthe cooler form Untrusted Source. Now after installing Proxmox and copying my Backup (400 GB VM) the SSD refused to write after 7% each time. Seeing the temps I noticed they got quite high.

Therefore: Any tips how I could cool the SSD at the bottom?

I have a p3 Tiny ThinkStation Gen 1 and the time it takes for the 'firmware' step in boot is about 1 min 10 sec long. Trying to understand what the issue might be here

I've tried a firmware update with fwupd and it seems Embedded Controller & TPM firmware could not be updated successfully

When i turn on Secure Boot (thinking that maybe something about it's enabled/disabled state prevents me from updating) I get a error dialog Secure Boot violation - Invalid signatures.

I don't intend on using Secure Boot as I use a full Arch linux install (no dual boot). What are some ways to check wahts happening all the way up to the Lenovo boot logo?
Fixed this

BIOS > Security > Reset Factory Settings

Firmware boot is now 9 seconds! Does not fix the firmware failed updates, however

Does yours have thermal pads underneath where the NVME is mounted? That's usually how it comes stock. I've not seen any additional cooling methods

You can buy a wson8 adapter, but it's tricky to use.
Link
You can find better ones on Ali express with a plastic guide.

Yes, the P330/M920q/M920x have dual chips. You actually need to desolder the other chip as stated in the link I provided. I don't think that you can bypass that..
Thank you both.
Looks like I need to do some more research before attempting this.
Wouldn't want to burn the chip or mb, as those components are hard to source in my location. :)

Damn didn't read properly, you need a soic8/sop8 test clip.
You can get it together with a ch341 on AliExpress.
Click
If not available in you location search for a ft232h Dev board.

"ITG Gear" on YouTube just did this exact upgrade (p330 Tiny + Arc B350):

Yes thank you. This video was posted the same day...
Looks like a single slot aftermarket cooler is advertised on n3rdware, expected release December or January , could make the end result more compact...

If I turn the system off then remove the cable, it boots successfully into proxmox. Furthermore, I can just replug the cable back to both NICs and works perfectly fine. VMs can use the bridge network I made.

Is there some sort of trick? I have used this same card (x520) on a different proxmox build on my Dell PE T420 just fine. Any ideas? The thought of having to unplug the cable to boot seems asinine.
```
Is there anything Between the NIC and the motherboard? I just had an issue earlier this week, and out haptic tape over the entire surface. Booted fine.I’ve seen others place index cards.
i saw that too. I've got a p3 tiny gen 1 with an old Radeon Pro WX 3200 and i'm crossing my fingers something more powerful like this will be compatible on my system
just want to make sure i understand - even though its PCIE 5.0 it's just gonna run at whatever speed the mobo supports yeah?
It's backwards compatible.
Take a look at this video, it's a performance comparison of pcie 3.0 and pcie 4.0 albeit for the b570. Results are mostly the same when rebar is on.
Cyberpunk 2077 is almost the same. Weirdly COD black ops 6 and CS2 1% and 0.1% framerates are better in PCIE 3.0.
B50 pro should perform the same in 4.0 and 5.0.
If rebar is off, the results tank.
Tiny M75Q gen2 with 4350GE ready with new 90watt AC. What are my unofficial options for upgrades and under/overclocks bios programming included.
I have the CH341A tool in hand ready, to update to the 5000 series bios and also will be purchasing a 6 or 8 core CPU GE or G? I've used smokeless bios to unlock the advanced options also and the overclock settings are available don't seem to make a difference. I'm aware that officially the overclocks are locked down. Anyone have any success stories?
I assume you have the x16 riser (5C50W00933)? See my posts on previous page, but essentially this riser only seems happy with x8 and x16 cards. If you want to use an x1 or x4 card you need the 5C50W00909 riser. This resolved my issue.
Installed the x4 riser with the single port SFP+ card. Confirmed working with no issues. Thanks again!
Has anyone been able to get past a C2 package state on an M90Q Gen 3-5 with a PCIe card connected? I have an Intel X710 DA2 card connected and it gets stuck at C2, but removing the card allows me to reach C8.
I use riser: 5c50w00933 lenovo genuine
Having a real problem with an M90q Gen1, it fails to detect the M.2 drive about 50% of the time when the Tiny is warm rebooted. It's not failed yet when power cycled. I've tried 3 different nvme drives of differing manufactures, both nvme slots, clearing the BIOS, disabling secure boot, its on the latest BIOS (which I believed I updated to to try to fix this originally). Its an i5-10600 and it has a 135w power supply. I've tried both Windows and Linux, same problem. Has anyone come across this before?
EDIT: So, I went and disabled everything in the BIOS I didn't need (wireless, bluetooth, Secure Boot, SATA Controller) and rebooting seems to be much more reliable now. I'm curious if there's something going on with the wireless/bluetooth card, it needs to be removed to put the nic in I want to use.
Hey there - hopefully i got to this in time! Ilearned a whole lot thru trial and error - but I don't have any exp with flashing bios directly There's another user on reddit who was able to flash his, but i don't think it allowed him to use 5000 series. Same tool, i think
Now your specific machine:
There were basically two runs of the m75q Gen 2
* 1st run: 11JJ, 11JK, 11JL
* 2nd run: 11JN, 11JQ, 11JR, 11JS
The 2nd run are the machines that can be updated to Cezanne BIOS which would allow you to upgrade to 5000 series CPUs but more specifically Zen 3 architecture CPUs
BUTyou aren't outta luck -maybe your tool will work fine, but the other identifier is - i know of at least 4 mobo versions (ver 1.0, 1.1, 1.2,1.3). This is printed right next to the CPU, big letters
1.2 and 1.3 can be upgraded to Cezanne - so presumably 1.2 and 1.3 where part of the 2nd run
You could get lucky and find just the mobo at an affordable price on ebay, or maybe pull it from a barebones. I found a seller who was getting rid of a 5650GE along with the board it was installed on, got a good deal
lastly - i'm pretty sure you can only run the "GE" CPUs on this machine.
Hope that helps!
Is anyone offering 3D prints for baffles? I'd be interested in two baffles that would fit a QNAP-QXG-2G4T-i225 for an M920q. The "standard" 4 port baffle is not the right size and despite my impressive dremel skills, I'd prefer to have something that is a better fit.
