Tiny7 offers a much more interesting option though, with the 3rd NVMe slot footprint present on the top side of the motherboard. There isn't any documented guide on how to get it working yet, but it's something that's on my todo list to work out and publish intructions for.
With no airflow except for the CPU, isn't this pushing things thermally?

It's right under the CPU fan so about in the best place it could be for airflow, and the new Tiny11 generation implements the 3rd NVMe slot in the same spot, so it gotta be finee

Oh, interesting. So you mean you wouldn't need a custom riser to get the 3rd M2 slot? the m90q Gen2 (Tiny7) supports 11th gen core CPUs so that may be a fine option for me if I can get the IGP sharing across LXCs working.

Still, I'd miss the 4th M2 slot. :(

You'd be able to get a 4th M.2 slot with a custom riser on Tiny7 :). I've tested that on a P350 I have here with the 3rd slot soldered on and my custom Tiny6 riser (which I haven't released yet) and it works great.
Now I'm not sure if you know exactly what bifurcation in the riser slot is referring to. Tiny7 (and I'm pretty sure every generation after that) still supports using the x8 CPU and x4 PCH link in the riser slot separately, that's not bifurcation, bifurcation refers to splitting the CPU x8 link into x4x4 to get a total of 3 x4 links out of the riser slot.

In Tiny6/7, the PCIe is already bifurcated to provide 8x4x4x where 8x is directed to the PCIe slot, and the 4x4x are directed to the two rear NVME slots. The riser would provide access to the 8x PCIe slot and the 4x PCH lanes. In addition to this, there is a 3rd 4x PCIe lane on the board that isn't soldered in that we may be able to access.

So, in total there are 4 potential M.2 expansion slots: 2 confirmed [rear slots], 2 potential [PCH riser + third onboard slot].

That's exciting! I may have to begin hunting for a reasonably priced M90q Gen 2!

Yes that's correct! Potentially 4 M.2 slots and then you still have the x8 CPU link free for a PCIe card. Don't get too excited just yet though, adding the 3rd onboard slot is so far undocumented and I can't really say when I'll be able to start selling the riser I made.

Hi, I have a problem with my lenovo m90q gen 2,does anyone have a fix?


I use it as my personal PC, on wich I game a bit, so I have installed a RTX A2000. OS is W11

The problem is that the PC crashes in some games, and mostly at the same place.

My theory is that the PCIE lane has been only made for 50W cards, so it is not used to the powerspikes a 70W card can make. So my plan was to simply limit the card to 50W.I tried using nvidia-smi or afterburner. Both seem to accept the power limit, but neither really limit the card. It still stays over 50W (like 70W while gaming), and crashes at the same whether I limit it to 10W or 70W.

My solution for now is to severly underclock the GPU. right now, it is clock limited to 1100Mhz, and I can see a huge difference from that.

Is there something else I can do? Here is some solutions I have thought about:

1. Is there a way to "increase" the PCIE power? Like maybe injecting the PCIE with more power? Seems dumb, but would allow me to keep the card as it is

2. Is there another way to limit the power draw from the card in software, like a BIOS setting I don't know?

3. I know there is a way to limit the card physically? I know there is a shunt mod that can remove the power limit, but is there one that can increase the limit to 50W?

4. I currently use a 230W PSU. Would a 300W PSU help?

5. Is there anything else I can do?

Right now, I'm also thinking to "upgrade" to a A1000, that is already a 50W card. but this seems silly, to "upgrade" to a worst card... Also I've moded my A2000 to be single slot with the n3rdware single slot cooler, so I'm kinda invested in this card :p

I've posted here in the past, and you guys were really helpful, so thanks a lot! And hopefuly someone can help me again!

That's weird, the M90q Gen 2's 12V regulator should be able to handle 120W continuous load (180W OCP). It'd be weird for the A2000 to be hitting the limit on that, and I find it unlikely that the 230W power supply is insufficient for the rest of the system too. Not sure what it could be then though. Maybe some part in the chain isn't working as intended.

I helped a friend who had the exact same problem. The computer would work fine for streaming and such, but once they added a video card and tried some games, they would crash and usually at the same place. It turned out that their CPU temps were super high and climbed when they ran games. We re-applied the thermal paste and it worked. Maybe check your CPU temps? If you changed the cooler on the A2000, did you check the temp under stress?
Specific to these machines, some people have mentioned lower performance / cpu throttling when they use higher wattage power adapters. I don’t think anyone ever found out the root cause, but maybe try it (counter-intuitively) with a lower wattage (hopefully stock) power supply?

Amazing, thanks. I'll try and find the time to give that a go, I ended up buying a 3260 compact and using that instead, way less of a headache. I do want to come back to the P330 Tiny though, if this works then that's unlocked some serious potential.

I need to add 2 x SATA ports to my 920x and can't use the PCI slot for that, as it's already used by the x710. There are m.2 A+E key small 2 port cards on Aliexpress, but these use JMicron JMB controller which, unfortunately, does not support ASPM. ASM1166/1164 do, but the only A+E cards I see are full 6 port and they won't fit the case.

Has anyone used an extension cable or an angle (90 degree) adapter maybe? Or is there some ASM1166/1164 controller I am not aware of that fits the m920x?

Picked up an m80q gen4 from work with a botched bios update. Anyone know if there are any special tricks to the bios recovery method?

I set the jumper to the clear cmos position, copied the current bios update files to a usb stick. Presumably it sees something different, because without the usb stick in, I only get the standard cmos reset beeps. With usb, no beeps at all. It just cycles about 30 seconds, briefly get the Lenovo screen, then restart and repeat.

Non-reset position, it shows bios splash screen for a few seconds, then 2 beep post error.

Not an expert, but both issues could be explained by a blown nvram chip? See if you can read it with CH341A. There might be two chips, actually.

Hello,
I am a new member of this community with my Lenovo M920q, i5 8500T, 16GB Ram and 256GB sata SSD.
I installed an Asus DGX sound card to get surround sound using a 16x 01AJ940 riser. The card is seen correctly, but the installation of the UNi Xonar W10 1825 v1.81a r2 drivers ends with the message: The driver is installed incompletely, without the control panel, Asio and OpenAL drivers, restart is required. With all the research I was able to do last night, I was unable to find a solution.
I disabled the Realtek and Intel sound cards in the device manager, but I did not disable anything in the BIOS.
The sound card is seen in device manager but without a driver.
I missed the additional power supply option through the floppy connector of the sound card (a troubleshooting suggestion), but I don't think the 65W power supply can't handle the sound card in addition to the processor, SSD and RAM.
I wonder if it's a software incompatibility issue or if there's a certain hardware setting that prevents me from being able to properly install this sound card on this PC.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

Is it possible to add a nvme in the wifi slot on the M90q P360 tiny? If so which adapter is working ?
As it happens I have done this yesterday on a P360, so definitely possible. I did update to the latest BIOS and had to exclude all boot devices (including PXE) to force it to boot from the drive. I had to do this on my m920q as well.

I used a generic A/E Key to M2 adaptor from Amazon

Hi @DanielL

I might be misreading your question, so I’m not quite sure what you are asking

If you are asking, can you fit that WiFi module to the m920q, then yes you should be able to as it is an E key PCIE module and that is what the slot on the mainboard is. You wouldn’t need an adapter for that.

If you are asking can you use an M.2 M key drive in the slot on the m920q, then yes you can, but you will need an adapter like the one I linked to above. Of course it will only run at PCIE gen 3 x1 speeds at that is all the slot can handle.

I want to remove the wifi board and replace it by a M2 NVMe drive 2230 via an adapter (as you mentionned)

my concern is that the on board (wifi) M2 may not use PCI lane (but only USB ?)
