I will take a look when I get home. For $100 that is still a great deal.
Yup, I thought so too. CPU wasn't specified but I took a risk. The 1620 is decent, but I'll probably upgrade, even if I can only get a V1 processor. It gets 650h/s on AEON in Windows, so getting +1500h/s for ~$75 net is a no brainer. I also stuck a Vega in it, which works with the 600w PSU, but it needed 6-pin to 8-pin power adapters. I tried plugging the 6-pins directly into the Vega which fits fine, but it wouldn't boot in that condition.

I like the Lenovo over the hp and dell because the fact that the Lenovo uses a lot of standard parts like psu. you can put the s30 MB into a standard case if you want but can't say the same above for hp or dell MB

I'm pretty pleased with the S30 so far. The bios was 4 years out of date. Took me the better part of 2 hours to shoe horn a USB bios update onto this thing after bricking the system once with a DVD update.

Got 3 disks running preclear and chugging away without any problems. Still trying to get me a steal on a CPU...

wow., good thing yoo didn't completely brick it. only took me 10 min to download the bios update from Lenovo which will let you run the exe in windows 10 and then reboot itself into the bios update mode....

best cpu bet is the 2680 v2 for $170 or maybe less.... for more premium cpu you have a choice of 2667 v2 and 2690 v2. i myself picked the 2690 v2. would've been nice if 2696 v2 were still more avail but oh well.... i got 2 of those 2696 v2 cpu which slightly beat a single 1950x

I didn't put an OS on the system, am using it for unraid server. Had to do everything via the command line/UEFI bios.

Did you have to replace the HSF on your cpu or was the stock one good enough?

Lenovo ThinkStation S30 0569-A69 Xeon E5-2609 2.40GHz 8GB 2x500GB Quadro 400 | eBay

These are NOT the one with v2 MB so you can only use 2011 v1 cpu, but i thought the price is fairly decent for a ready to use WS with 8GB ram, 2x 500GB hd, quadro k400. cpu is not the fastest but you can upgrade to another v1 cpu later...

If you are patient, you can wait around to see if this seller or another one will offer the v2 S30 for a little more so you will have more cpu upgrade option

hp board z420 is almost standard fit to atx size. just psu connector is small than standard. there is psu connector converter adapter available at market u can use it easily too.

hi guyz. can u suggest me which board should i buy? i've got all the things for my pc. xeon e5-1650 v2, hsf ma620p, cm haf x case, silencer 750w, 32gb (16x2 rdimms),
i still can't figure out which one to buy, s30, or z420 board, or intel, or supermicro, or any chinese x79 board would b good? i am planning for chinese runing x79z-vb10 with 8 ram slots, or plexhd x79 (4 ram slot but with pcie onboard connector for gpuz).
I can't take risk to get s30 or z420 board as a friend of mine got deceived by market person, he is not a techno type guy. they labeled it as v2 xeon but he got v1. can't upgrade to v2 as z420 or s30 have different board machines for v2.

it's a lot more secure and easier to just buy the whole WS rather than just the MB... for lenovo s30, if you want the v2 version WS, just look for the SS labeling and presence of the usb 3.0 ports on the front panel....
the older v1 only ws does not have the front usb 3.0.... it's not easy to find the mb only and also to ensure you getting the v2 board.....just easier to get the whole ws which is think is the best way to go..

You can tell the v2 boards by a few things.

Here is a v1 board

The board will say Rev 2.0 and the front panel connector uses a blade type connection not pins like normal. The FP connection makes it much harder to use in a different case.

Hmm, i will have to go and check the inside of my s30 again.... is that blade FP connector only present in v2 and not v1 and also not removable? that is very evil of lenovo if it's not removable or there's no way of getting rid of it to use a regular power switch.

I just looked at my s30 and the manual again... looks like what you refer to as the blade connector is actually for the front panel usb 3 connector and not for the power switch, which is next to it to the right with just regular pin connectors...... see if you can check again...

You are right, it is for front panel USB3. Really, it is a better connector than the dense pin header of the normal USB3 front panel connectors but sadly proprietary.

guess if someone putting this in a custom case will just have to do with two less usb 3 ports
