M720q was a lot cheaper and more available than M910x (or a M920q/x) in the UK. Will be keeping an eye out on ebay though for a 910x - got a couple more Xeons in the parts bin...

I still have some minor issues with the video. The display output on the monitor sometimes disappears for a while, completely unpredictably. I have two M910x units, one with QNCT, the other with e-2286m. Both have the same video problems. I use one as a Proxmox server and it doesn’t matter (everything is fine over RDP), but I want to use the other as a desktop PC, and this display dropout is annoying.
I solved the problem with the disappearing image . The cause was insufficient cooling of the VR chips on the board. The CPU e-2286m is a "mutant", so it's a few millimeters thicker than a regular i5. The heatsink didn't reach the VR chips, and I had to add more thermal pads. For some reason, the CPU wasn't affected by this, only the GPU.

Hello everyone!
I've got a Lenovo M910x that I've been trying to get an RTX 3050 LP working on. I tried flashing the modded BIOS to it that unlocks the extra menus, and I've also modified the resistor on the 12V regulator for PCIe to deliver enough current to the GPU to have it work correctly.

No matter what I do though, the Maxsun RTX 3050 doesn't seem to want to detect in the BIOS. I have tested a Dell Radeon R7 250 in the Lenovo, and it detects as PCIe 4x gen 3 in BIOS no issues. The 3050 I've also tested in another system and confirmed it to be working. I have a link to where I posted about it originally, I'll also attach some pictures of the system and the BIOS config down below.

If anyone has any ideas in regards to getting the 3050 to initialize correctly on the M910x, please let me know

Hello everyone,
I am planning to mod my M910Q to install an i5-8500T, but I am not sure which pins need to be covered. Based on a topic I found, there is an image suggesting that I should cover or connect the pins shown to make it work.
Could you please help confirm whether this is correct?
Thanks

Hi all,

I've just done modded my M900 Tiny using CoffeeTime 0.99, and the machine is posting with a U0 stepping i5 8500t, however it is seems slow and flaky - if I try to enter the BIOS it gets stuck at entering setup, and when trying to boot my OS, I see the GRUB menu being drawn block by block slowly. That being said, I've just power cycled it and it's not posting at all.

What am I doing wrong?

Does anyone have a modded bios for a M700s? My bios chips are 8mb, and i cant seem to get them to boot with a 9100T at all. I tried various methods of modifying the bios, and i even tried custom coreboot. Nothing seems to get these puppies to work with the 9th gen processor. At best i get the desktops to spin up and the monitor to come on, but no post. Hoping someone has had more luck.

EDIT: 2025-11-03
I finally got my m700s to boot. Between Coffeetime and DSANKEs modding and a little bit of editing, i got my desktops to boot and play nice. Currently running 9100t in one with a 9500T on order. Goodluck out there fellas.

Hello. I have an M700 SFF. My motherboard is an IH110MS. I would like to use an i3 9100 (B2 stepping). I tried running CoffeeTime, but it is not being recognized. Would you be able to share the BIOS ROM file?

Great thread.

Found using a merged M700 image a bit too uncertain, but managed to build Coreboot and go from 6400T to 7400T. Found a 9400T recently, and am now trying to get it to work.

I would suppose the Coreboot image I built with skylake, kaby lake and coffee lake support would have worked with a straight cpu swap, but I can't get the system to boot. I've now done the pin mod twice, but all I get is a quick green led and a short fan spin.

Is the cpu or the bios? Does it make a difference which Intel firmware binaries are used when building the Coreboot image, specifically the ME bin?

yes. ME contains the Bringup of the CPU, must match the processors series.
there are other differences.
w./wo. AMT , w./wo. BootGuard and more...
Ok, I think that solves part of it.

Just tried flashing the build from post #333 and it indeed seems to post.. doesn't find usb devices or the hard drive, so just have to figure a proper build for myself with edk2.

Now just to figure out a working ME. At least I don't have to touch the tape :D

Coreboot should work I guess. I am using coreboot without any LAN issue. I am using the coreboot version 24.05 with original 11.0 ME.

From my post in #127 (5. Do NOT upgrade ME (either through program or biosmod) when you are using M710 bios in M700. Please stick into ME 11.0. Otherwise Ethernet will not work even if you have disabled the ME.) .

I still can't figure out the LAN issue is due to ME change or ME upgrade or downgrade. ***May be*** the ME version have to match the GBE region IDK. Try to extract descriptor and gbe from the original BIOS. Also, you may try disable ME by using the Jumper on the board see if any change on Ethernet.

If your original dump had upgraded to 11.8 ME version. Try to mod from others dump in this thread to get 11.0 ME. There is no BIOS guard on M700 variant.
Hi, can you share your ME region? I have version 11.0.2.xxxx and it doesn't recognize my wifi card. Thanks in advance!
