Seeking recommendations for the least expensive 100GB+ SATA (II or III) 2.5" SSD with endurance (TBW) of 500TB+. Intel 710 used on eBay looks attractive, assuming the write IOPS is sufficient -- anything else I should consider that is less expensive or close in price but better (capacity, IOPS)? Is there any source of 100GB S3700 or 200GB S3710 at good prices? I'm not very familiar with the enterprise SSD market.

I'll be using this as a scratch disk 24/7, doing mixed reads and writes (not sure of split, but more writes than reads), written files are about 50% 1KB, 25% 2MB, 12.5% 16KB, 12.5% 8MB.

Thanks very much.

You nailed...

- Intel 710 100GB is, I believe exactly 500TB and slowest WriteIOPs of the bunch (slowest overall I should say) but ~$55 for a NEW one (ebay)
- Intel S3700/S3710 100GB or 200GB are usually pretty cheap but lots of buyers have driven cost up a lot on these. The 200GB has greater write throughput and IOPs.
S3700 info:
100GB: 1.83 PBW
200GB: 3.65 PBW

If you're going SAS the choice would be HGST SLC SAS 100GB SSD that uses Intel Inside, or 200GB for a jump in performance.

Thanks, T_Minus. Guess I'll try a WTB in case someone wants to unload a small drive or else go for the 710. No SAS for now, but I'll keep that in mind.

No problem, I replied in your other thread. I thought I didn't have any drives or I would have told ya here, turns out I have a couple lower capacity leftover still.

Micron M500DC Data Center MTFDDAK120MBB-1AE1ZABYY 120GB SATA III 6GB/s 2.5" SSD | eBay

They have decent endurance (Like the Intel 3600 series), and slightly better performance than Intel S3700
https://www.micron.com/~/media/documents/products/data-sheet/ssd/m500dc_2_5_disti.pdf

I would also like to add, I do own a few 500DC's and they are about 20% faster than Intel S3700 for sync writes.
Thanks for sharing this, I actually have a question pending with the seller. I might well get one of these, and, if I do, I'll share some stats in case others are considering buying from the same seller.

@Logan You'll find many here who will not buy a Micron at all.

I've had little dealings with them personally but lets just say I too returned all... I should add, this was after being warned by other members here ;) LOL!! So I won't blame ya if you give it a shot :) :)

As I said, I have limited experience but it was bad. And others here warned me prior to buying... not a single experience.
