For some time, my go to drive for the small TrueNAS NASes that I have at home has been the Seagate Ironwolf 4TB (model ST4000VN008).

Recently I purchased two new Ironwolf 4TB. Since model ST4000VN008 is no longer available, I received model ST4000VN006. Both drives are advertised as CMR. I installed one in a ZFS pool and the resilvering was looking way slower than it should be.

With the ST4000VN008 it takes between 3 and 4 hours to resilver the pool, with the ST4000VN006 that operation took 30 hours with the NAS basically idle !!!

Once the the resilvering is complete, the shares in the pool behave normally, writes don't seem slower than they should be and a scrub last around 3 hours as expected. When writing a large file to the NAS (over 10Gb ethernet) the VN006 writes at around 100MB/s as expected.

Thinking that maybe my drive could be defective, I installed the second VN006 in a different TrueNAS and I observed the very same behavior during the resilvering. Then I installed an "old" VN008 and resilvering time was back to the expected 3 to 4 hours.

When looking at the write speed during resilvering, you see that the VN006 model resilver at around 11MB/s whereas the VN008 do the same operation at a around 95MB/s

When writing at those 11MB/s the VN006 is 95% busy whereas the VN008 is around 82% at 95 MB/s

Does somebody here has some experience with these ST4000VN006 drives in RAIDZ pool ?
