Hello Guys! I baught a used EX2300 PoE+ for a couple of bucks and i think it was part of a virtual chassis config (tries to connect to master). I just want to use it as a single switch at home. I have console cable and Its secured by a root password. I tried single user sign on, recovery and so on. Nothing works. Also i cannot find a firmware image. Do you know how to reset this beauty? Greetings

you boot single user from the bootloader aka "boot -s" and then pick "recovery" at the next prompt and then type "configure" and change the root password. it does work, I've done it many times over the years for both clients and myself.

Thanks for your reply. But i get this:
Bildschirmfoto vom 2025-06-28 21-06-01.png

I also tried recovery system but i always get to that point where i need root pw.

Aaaaah i got it. I bootet from bootloader directly to the CLI Recovery System. Thank you!

Ok i think i will need a full image. Can not start/access web gui:

root@:RE:0% ls /usr/libexec/web-management
ls: /usr/libexec/web-management: No such file or directory

If someone has one of these images, it would be very nice:
  • jinstall-ex-2300-18.4R3-S8.2-signed.tgz
  • jinstall-ex-2300-20.2R3.10-signed.tgz
  • jinstall-ex-2300-20.4R3-S2.4-signed.tgz

Looking for the junos installer firmware for the SRX4100 for my homelab setup.

Should be junos-install-media-srxentedge-x86-64 or something similar.

Can find plenty of the normal upgrade files, but I have one that had a bad RAID and needs to be completely reloaded. Will happily take any version.

Please help me with the Juniper EX2300-48P switch error, my switch's POE doesn't work when I plug in the access point, can upgrading the firmware help?
Thank you to everyone who helps me.

Hello everyone, I've found myself in a very unpleasant situation. The SRX340 has broken down.
It is necessary to restore it by creating a usb flash with the media-install software version.
If anyone has the media-install software for the SRX300 line, please send it to me.

I finally have made the jump to using an enterprise switch (Juniper EX2300-48P) in my home. Replaced the fans, quiet, and powerful, yeah!

The switch is on 23.4R2 right now and there are a couple of minor annoyances (wildcard expansion bugs, jweb-mini is locked to me0, doesn't support bpdu, native-interface on trunking disabled, etc.).

1 - Is there any disadvantage in trying to upgrade to JunOS 25.2R1?
2 - Can someone help point me to an install .tgz for EX2300-48P for 25.2R1? Ideally paired with a JWeb install?
3 - Alternatively, can you help point me to an install .tgz for 23.4R2-Sx (or is it S5 -- whatever the latest is on the 23.4R2 release train), with a JWeb install?

Juniper is taking an annoyingly long time trying to figure out if they want to enable an account for me. I'm technical, just don't work at an IT company!.

Thanks.

1. No you you want to run -Sx releases
2. Hunt around the internet for images, why Jweb? its hot garbage that need to be gotten rid of permanently, honestly learn the CLI.
3. this is the path you want to go down.

i have a account at Juniper/HPe and im locked out at the moment, been trying for a month to get them to fix it and going around in circles so i wouldnt get your hopes up. *I* pay for Support but since HPe took over things have gotten worse. (No Surprise)...

with all that said, i probably have the -Sx image *BUT* i dont hand out firmware and *IF* i did, i dont have JWeb...
your more than welcome to PM me and more than likely i can point you towards the image but it wont have JWeb.

1 - ok, curious why
2 - no issue using the CLI. But every now and then, a quick visual look is nice. But whatever
3 - thanks.

PM on the way.

1. Bug fixes make it into the -Sx train before the primary train.
2. Jweb has always been a slow and will screw up your config if you config'd it in the CLI or visa versa. aka hot garbage

Well that sucks, as it looks like - 747builder you were my only hope.

I work at an small business and we purchased 2 EX3400s back in December of 2024. After much cursing and a crash course in Junos CLI, I got both switches working reliably and installed first one and then a few weeks later the other, into our network.

For months I struggled with using SSH to connect to the second switch to manage it. Every time I connected the SSH Key changed, the only way to resolve the loss of connection was to log in with the console and reset the SSH connection (picture this: climb a 10ft ladder with a laptop and connect the usb2serial to console cable).

Which would only work once and then I would have to repeat. Short version of the story: I removed the second switch from the network and have been examining my options for remote management.

vChassis - looked like the perfect solution (and the connection between the switches would be even faster!), we purchased a compatible active QSFP+ cable and connected the 2 switches together... Both routers auto configured to make use of the interconnect!! Except, a device connected to the 2nd switch did not get an IP address. Why? A lot of searching the internet later and trying a zeroize of both devices followed by connecting them together - I was forced to conclude: mismatched firmware versions.

On the plus side, I'm getting really good at reconfiguring an EX3400 from zero.

I contacted the vendor (reputable 2nd hand network hardware online sales), they "do not have firmware for the devices that they sell".

Searched the internet, found firmware for other Juniper devices but not for EX3400s. Even found some other devices firmware files whose MD5s match those from Juniper.

Contacted support at Juniper.net... After much back and forth, this is the answer I got:

Hi David,

Looks like those are gray market devices that were initially assigned to a Community School District in ---------------------- ------------------ USA customer, and they would need to be recertified before any support or licensing can be applied.

Attached is our Grey Market product reinstatement policy. Please take a read. We would need you to comply with the details listed before our inspections team will agree to provide a quote to bring your devices back into compliance.

Thanks,
------------- --------------

The policy that juniper sent me, amounts to "blanket agree to anything that we might charge you, before we help". They even specified that I will be on the hook for any and all charges regardless of whether they are able to re-certify the devices. Usually I get chocolate and flowers before things like this happen.

If anyone reading this was entertained by my story, I'm still looking for firmware that I could flash to both switches to get vchassis working.

Thank you,

David B.

I forgot to add, I even inspected the temporary image locations on both switches just in case there was still a firmware file in it that I could use to flash the other switch to the same version... No such luck, storage constraints on these switches usually results in admins deleting the images and zeroize is known to typically delete the contents, both switches were zeroized before being sold :(

Well, latest update from Juniper.net...

Hi David,

I’ve asked our Support Renewal team to prepare an official quote.

However, as an unofficial budgetary price for recertification, you would be looking at an estimated USD $3K/switch.

Can you share the Proof of Purchase from your vendor “-------------- ----------------” where you purchased the switches?

Thanks,

-------------

Did I say chocolate and flowers... maybe I should say child support and alimony? $3K/switch USD to recertify used switches is just wrong, that's 5x what we paid for them.

I guess the point is to make it so expensive that you might as well buy a new switch or an officially refurbished one, if the latter is even a thing.
