OK, I see all the major players, renaming their JBODs to Enclosures (I think this started with HP). To me this seems a little odd since I always felt a JBOD was just what it implied, Just a Bunch Of Disks and an Enclosure was synonymous with chassis. To me a disk enclosure could mean either a JBOD or RAID box, but if you look at what vendors are calling Enclosures, they are only JBOD's. Some also have RAID Enclosures.

So what gives? Is this just a marketing department run amok?

Opinions?

If I see 'JBOD' by itself I don't automatically think of enclosure, chassis, etc... I just think of a bunch of disks in a non-RAID configuration.

If I see JBOD Enclosure, Chassis, then I think of the physical device holding the bunch of disks.

If that's technically correct or not I am not 100% but it's what I "see" in my head :)
