Hi! I wonder if someone could help me with this.

So I've purchased supermicro H12SSL-i (revision 1.02) and EPYC 7302P CPU setup, however I was unable tomake it work. I think there might be issues with CPU being locked to the motherboard of a certain vendor or the BIOS needs to be updated. From Supermicro website I've located several manuals and there must be a way to updating the MB BIOSeven without CPU and this is where I need help.I wonder if someone could assist and explain the way I connect to the MB via lan cable and enter its control panel (web interface). This is my first experience with server parts so the issue might seem very basic.

Please refer to the attached video (I've filmed the starting process and indicators):

Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

what about to plug all 8pin EPS +12V conntectors ?
you need better PSU first.

Conneted the second 8pin EPS +12V and the monitor via VGA. Checked the JPG1 - position VGA enable. Outcome is still the same as in the video and no output to the monitor. I think it might be CPU then...

you don't have a ATX power supply. you switch just AC on. it is unsufficient. no way to test with.
there must be first +5VStandby to the Board, BMC inits.
the you short the Power Btn switch of the board and the PSU turn on, gives +12V then not all the time.

I think power supply may be an issue.

I've got Dell DPS-2400BB as a PSU and this Breakout bouard. Whenever this PSU setup is connected to the motherboard it does not start with shorting the Power Button switch, the system only starts when I press power button on the Breakout bouard, as shown on the video. However, even though thePSU is working and CPU cooler is spinning, the system does not boot at all (black skreen).

When i connect a regular PSU (I only have the one with 1 8-pin CPU connector) the system refuses to startwhen i short the Power Button switch on the motherboard.

RolloZ170 - are you suggesting to get a PSU that has 2 8-pin CPU power connectors and trying to short the Power Button switch?

Appreciate your help!

because this provides no +5VSB power.

yes.

you can press the power btn after the BMC has finished init.
i recommend to use only one RDIMM stick for testing, many GB memory takes minutes to check/train/init.
note the FrontPanel header is non.standard pinout. check manuals.

Understood, will test tomorrow! Thx once again!
Based on the MB manual, this is the correct header to short, am I correct? Not sure what you mean by "FrontPanel header is non standard pinout".

Tried reinstalling the CPU, seems properly installed. I've already ordered a new one so I'll message once I test this second one. Quick question, is this server PSU cannot be used, right? Only regular ATX PSU is required, the one I showed in the last video?

your server PSU does not provide standby power. only if you switch in on the BMC is powered and starts working, thats not the way it goes.
there are other server PSU with +5VSB power, yours seems to be one with +12V standby(newer ones)
with a proper Breakout board this can work, or try other (supermicro?) server PSU with Power distribution unit and ATX plugs.

forgot to mention to check if the CPU is correct inserted in the Carrier, we had one user here got the CPU 180degree wrong placed in the carrier.

Hello Lads,

I know I am late to the party but I am facing an issue which is kind of similar to this post and wanted to get some help.
I also purchased " AMD EPYC 7282 CPU + Supermicro H12SSL-i + 2133P 2x16gb" from ebay.

Upon receiving the MB and CPU I installed the CPU cooler "amd epyc server cooler 4u-sp3 AMD Threadripper -tr4 5 tubes" which I also bough from the same seller on ebay. I connected the 24pin from my PSU (Cooler Master V1000) and the 2x8pin CPU connectors to the H12SSL-i and shorted the correct pins (1-2, JF1) and the MB started just fine and CPU fan started spinning.
I then set a static IP for the BMC in the BIOS (V2.8 at the initial installation) and updated both bios and BMC to latest versions (2.9 and 01.04.05) through the "Maintenance--->Firmware management".

After the update (it was still on my bench for testing) I no longer could get the computer to shutdown or start with the power button manually or shorting the PINs (is that normal)!!!!
The only way I can start the MB, is through the BMC or to flip the switch on the back of the power supply (OFF/ON).

If I power on with BMC and power off with BMC, I no can/t even turn the system on with toggling the power switch on the PSU!!!
So only powers on only if I power it on with BMC, then turn it off by PSU Switch, and then Turn PSU on again!!!

Also when the computer turns on and if I press the power switch (with power SWITCH connector connected to MB pins) the MB freezes, even if I am in the BIOS!!! so if the state is in pre post the computer freezes if I press the power or short the power PINs!!!

I am loosing my mind as it was initially turning on and off with BIOS 2.8 and another BMC version (can't remember the exact version it was shipped with) but the funny thing is even after downgrading to BIOS 2.8 and BMC 01.04.03, I am still facing the same issue.

Things I have tried so far:

1- Took out CMOS Battery and RESET CMOS
2- Change CMOS battery
3- Change DIMMS, TRIED with only 1 DIMM, all the DIMS and CPU are recognized so cant be issue with RAM or CPU
4- As mentioned before, downgraded the bios and BMC (Didn't help). Factory reset the BIOS and BMC (for some reason IP doesnt change, but BMC password got reset)
5- Tried another power supply (the power supply that was in my server case, OCZ ZX series 850) with same result.

See the issue from this link:
New video by Parham Honar

If the MB is not compatible with any of the power supplies, why it turned on the first time and now the power switch or shorting the power PINs causes the MB to freeze!!!

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks!!!

It was stupid of me not looking closely with magnifier!!!!
Oh man, why would they flip the orientation though!!!
On the image of the board pins 1&2 are on top but on the diagram pin 1&2 are at the bottom.
Thanks for the quick reply!!!
Will give it a try and let u know.

I guess the first time it was a cold boot and after the bmc initialized the mb just started by itself when I flipped the psu switch!!!
