Is this true? (Rack mounting a Supermicro SC846 chassis)

Cut and paste from another forum -

"A warning for anyone who uses the Supermicro SC846 chassis - The rails that come with it will not allow you to pull the chassis out far enough to remove the lid. To get rails that work right, you need to buy the ones that come with the SC826 or SC836. Supermicro is aware of the issue, and has no intention of resolving it."

Thanks

I know the ones that are recommended for SC846 don't clear enough to remove the lid. I have the same problem.

I don't know if the SC826 or SC836 fix the problem.

Yes, it's true.

There is a thread around it here someplace.

I have maybe 8 846s and ~ dozen - 15 rail sets and 3 or 4 allow full extension.

I took pictures of the #s/IDs/revisions on all of them to figure out which ones "work" and was more confused when I was done because some were "long pull" and some were "short" even with identical #s/ids/revisions... which obviously makes ordering them pretty hard :(

I'm about to buy a rack and will need rails. Guess I'm looking at a pot luck hunt. :(

I'll post/share all my pics of the ones that are "long pull" as I call them... I need to find which digital camera they're hiding on.

Maybe someone here can make more sense of the part #s/revisions etc...

Bumping an old thread, but I'd like to know what rails to buy if anyone knows which ones will clear :).

These are the ones that allow you to pull the server out of the rack far enough to remove the top.

I got lucky and scored a set of outer rails for 34 bucks. I already had a set of inner rails so this was a sweet deal. :)
