I'm getting the following motherboard for $100 which seems like a good deal

Intel S5500HCV DDR3 LGA1366 12x13 High Performance Server Board New Pull 0675901005241 | eBay

The Xeon L5630 are also available at a low cost:

Intel Xeon Quad Core 2 13GHz 12MB SLBVD L5630 | eBay

Why is there is such a big price difference between the L5630 and E5630? Is there really such a big performance difference? I'm going to use these to drive my two SE3016 sas arrays.

I also would like to get as much memory as possible for a good price. Any idea what 8gb or 16gb ecc dimms will work with this and a good place to get 9 dimms?

ebay search: L5639

price low to high.

or L5639 server.

There is nothing that I know of that can match the L5639 deal.

Can't wait for the next round to upgrade. maybe 8 core E5 for $99 in a few years :)

its the L5630 but 6 cores 60 watts. Very nice to have such low power. L5630 is 40 watt 4 core but I'd rather spend less for more!

Do you also know of any good deals that go with that cpu? I'd like buy in bulk 5-10

1. Dual socket motherboard that will accept this cpu? (1366/Socket B)
2. And good 8gb ECC or 16gb.

There are a couple of sellers doing individual cpu sales at $79, hit up a couple of the bigger sellers and you should be able to get down to the $65-$70 range for 10. I got 2 for $150 when they were listed at $100/each 2 months ago.

Runs great in a dual socket 1366 and (might check the Intel Ark site) it does 8GB and 16GB I believe.

I see them down to $75 shipped w/ offer option, so for ten try low-balling.

Its not on the ark site, but its obviously a L5640 down one BCLK step to 2.13 Ghz. As for memory, its the same IMC as any other 32nm xeon.

An ebay trick to see who is accepting offers and how low:

- Search the item you want and set the option "accepts offers"
- Get familiar with the sellers with more than a few of the item. Get familiar with their prices.
- Add the search item "sold items only" and search again
- See who has sold items below their asking price

Saw a few options under $100 for dual 1366 at Pricewatch, not sure on CPU compatibility.

Do you know if ilo (ipmi) will work without a license? If not, will I be able to at least power them up remotely without having a license and have access to kvm during the boot process. Not having it after boot is fine.
