I can get into the forums fine. But the main site on various articles stall at loading the page.

Yea... So we had some issues yesterday. The fix worked... Until it did not.

We were in a very dark place this morning. Made the decision to revert to backups as of yesterday afternoon. That actually scrapped today's article and held up the newsletter since the article was featured.

Restoring everything from backups took under 3 minutes so not too bad.

@Patrick ,

Most of us would consider this site addicting and I was needing my fix this morning. Thank you for having such a fast recovery plan. that is not something that most business have.

And as always, thank you so much for the hard work that you and the other contributors give to this site.

I think the rss feed is still broken, thunderbird reports that the sth url is not a valid feed.

Check the URL and it was using http instead of https. Changing it to https still didn't fix the error.

Parsing it with the w3c validator I get the same message:
rss.jpg

Removing the first blank line makes it valid.

This is going to sound like a crazy strategy, but we have snapshots, a local (in rack) backup, then offsite backup.

Going from offsite backup takes longer. The in-rack backups are fairly fast.

@gigatexal and @i386 thanks for that catch. One of the "gremlins" in the site is that whitespace. There is a way to fix it temporarily that apparently needed to be run after the restore process. One day I need a database guru to clean up the DB.

Hopefully, in 2019 we can hire someone to do all the upgrades/ updates to the main site. First is going to be the forums though but that will probably be me.
