Is crypto mining still something to consider?

Hi STH,

I am still pretty new here and have thought about crypto mining for sometime now. I am not thinking of anything main stream but maybe Monero or another L2 chain. What do you recommend?

basically not worth it at all anymore unless your electricity is <$0.05/kWh.. and even then you'll need a good way to get rid of heat. if you're in northern hemisphere and use electricity for heat (resistance heating), it can be profitable to heat your home with crypto mining in winter

Yeah I live in Cali and our energy companies are horrible greed mongers. A seasonal mining might make sense though considering using it for alternative for possible heating the house during the cold season. LOL

remember, mining is always worth it if your energy bill is 0.
you can try a lottery. spin up bitcoind node, connect your tiny 5/12V miner asic(theres plenty of them now, based on repurposed, open-sourced older chips) and wait. year. two. four. forever. or just few minutes. you never know. but only if your electricity is free. mining for heat probably makes no sense, you can execute more useful stuff there like donating your power to do some scientific calculations instead. its unlikely to ever cover your power bill if you do traditional pooled mining.
