IPMI dead after running update on Supermicro X10DRT-H

So I recently got a 2U 4 Node Blade server off an ebay refurb place, for the most part it has been working fine. However, I decided to do an update on the BIOS and IPMI in the hopes it would add some new features and update the java to a somewhat recent version for better KVM compatibility. The first two blades updated fine for both BIOS and IPMI, the third one seemed to go through the IPMI update fine, but during the reboot, I noticed the web interface wouldn't come back up. After getting a monitor, i saw it was stuck at PEI--IPMI Initialization. I couldn't get it to boot to any usb or boot menu, it seemed to be frozen, minus the loading dots. It turns out, after about 20 minutes, it does eventually boot, however the NIC lights on the back never come up.

What I've tried:
Moving Jumper JPME from 1-2 to 2-3 - No noticeable effect
Using FreeDos to reflash IPMI - says

Fail:w1 inbyte = 255
ERROR:SEND "GetFWUpdateInfo" COMMAND TO BMC FAILED
REBOOTING THE BMC...
Fail:w1 inbyte = 255
Execute Cold Reset Fail
Press any key to continue...

Using FreeDos to update BIOS - Completes successfully, no change
Disconnect from power overnight - No effect
Using FreeDos and IPMICFG to reset to defaults - Any command says 'Can not find a valid IPMI Device'
Booting to BIOS reports IPMI Version as Unknown.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Which ipmicfg command are you trying to reset the BMC? Also, I have had to clear the bios before by shorting jbt1 with battery removed and power off.

Not at home to look up commands but can look later.

I originally tried ipmicfg -fd and ipmicfg -fde to do a complete reset, but even things like ipmicfg -m to just show information fail with the error 'Can not find a valid IPMI Device.'
I tried calling their tech support again on the off chance they could help, they had me reset the CMOS by bridging JBT1 last night, it reset all the settings, however it still did not fix the IPMI. Even straight out of that boot it still took 10+ minutes just to get through to the bios setup.

Have you actually tried ipmicfg -r to reboot the BMC? Other than that, all I an think of is to try different methods of reflashing the IPMI, maybe, drop down one version and retry. If not, the individual nodes can sometimes be found for under $60. Sometimes the entire node can be used to upgrade processors and memory as well as replace the broken one you have.

If a reflash don't work, then we're talking possibly a defective chip there.... I've seen this happen over the years not just supermicro, and the only fix is often a board swap or a chip replacement however shor above is right, for a quick fix you should be able to grab a replacement fairly easily.

Hi! I just hit the exact same issue. In the end, did you attempt the reflash procedure or found another solution ?
