I think I may have a way to add a second 1GbE to TMM nodes inexpensively, but it will be Realtek based.

@Geran if you sell the M720q to get one of the thin clients let me know. I can also look and see if we have one of the above thin clients in storage to sweeten the deal. I do not have an M720q yet.
At this time, I don't plan on selling my M720q. I'm trying to sell off my E-2176g setups since I'm downsizing my server rack.

I found the riser...it is coming from China. As for the support bracket, I am thinking about 3d printing one to fit it. I don't think there are any other supports other than the riser and 4 port bracket.

That is the way. It took about 8 days from ordering until I received it from China.

I got a three 3050 Micro machines, to cannibalize the i5-6500T CPUs, I also did some quick power draw testing. In Windows 10 with the balanced power profile it idles at 10W and in the power saver profile at 8W. Then I set in the BIOS ASPM to Auto (was disabled by default), that took the power consumption to about 6W in W10 with the GPU active and under 5W with GPU off. Then I installed Ubuntu Server 20.04 and installed tlp, the power draw is stable at about 5W. I got one 8GB stick and a Kingston A400 120GB SSD in that machine.

With all of that enabled and ASPM what is the boost clocks?

I have installed a 4 port i350 NIC in a Lenovo M720q and it works well. Total cost for the riser, special bracket, and NIC itself was under £75 ($100) including shipping, plus about 30 minutes of time to install. I did a detailed write-up on another forum with photos.

... and I'll continue the conversation with myself here, as posted elsewhere I've successfully upgraded a Lenovo M920q from a Pentium Gold to an i9 9900T (8C/16T) which I bought off Taobao for about $350. If you need a lot of compute (or cores for VMs) it's a very powerful solution.

Could you post a link to that other forum or send it to me in a PM?

I'd love to get that link as well please.

Did you use the 01AJ940 PCIE riser?
Surprisingly that is not available on ebay at the moment :(

Yes, that's the one I used. I got it from Taobao using Superbuy as buying agent, the pack I bought included the special "baffle" (PCI card backplate) you need for an i350 NIC. It was significantly cheaper than buying locally or through eBay.

Got my i350-T4 on my M720Q installed with sophos xg firewall.

Edit: I forgot to mention I bought the baffle and 01AJ940 via superbuy and bought an upgraded power block from ebay.

I have a x550-t2 10gbe which I might try when I get chance.

Really nice! Well done.
Thanks, parallax.

Would you know if the M920X lid cover with cutout for gpu work with the m720q?

I have another m720q which I want add a nvidia p1000 gpu to.

Another pcie riser is on the way and already have the bracket for the nvidia gpu.

Thanks

Sorry, I've never had an M920x so I can't say for sure. I would be surprised if it didn't fit, I'm pretty sure all these Mx20 cases are a standard size, but <insert standard disclaimer here>.

Also don't forget the GPU versions have a special heatpipe arrangement connected to the system fan.
