I order tray processors periodically and they usually come in a plastic tray wrapped in a static bag.

I just ordered my first EPYC 9005 series (Turin) processor from a reputable retailer that appears on this forum a fair amount. The proc came in a white cardboard box with pink foam and no static bag. The white box was packaged nicely in a slightly larger brown cardboard box. However, the processor sitting directly on the foam surprised me. I haven't installed this yet because I'm still waiting for some other parts.

Is this acceptable/safe for a server proc?

It's perfectly safe as long as the foam is the right thickness (which it looks like it is), and squishes down to hold the CPU in place.

perfectly fine, I've bought many CPUs like that and all works fine. As long as it is fixed in one place when box is closed.
