Just did an analysis on "PHP performance by various CPUs" trying to create a framework which SKUs seem best for for our SaaS on LEMP (similar service to Shopify). This chart persuing single-thread (PHP) performance while also keeping an eye on max. throughput might be a nice addition as a take on this competitive landscape. It shows why it's not easy being Intel these days and that is even with PHP being one of the most favorable workloads for them.

In 2020 terminology "Xeon Gold 6258R is the last blue stronghold on the right. Everything else is red and it's not even close." :)

I still don't see that Intel has closed the performance gap with AMD. Its not even a price/performance trade-off. The AMD offerings perform better AND cost less. Plus PCIe 4.0, more PCIe lanes/chip and better memory bandwidth. For top-end service workloads I can't see a single reason why a greenfield purchase would choose Intel at this point - and even momentum-based purchasing is getting hard to justify.

Intel remains in deep doo-doo.

There is a reason we are using a lot of EPYC these days

When both Intel and AMD have new CPU’s generally available (not big special customers) in Q2-2021 it will be really interesting to see how things look and if that’s finally the time many intel until now shops say look, this AMD chip is faster, more cores, cheaper, and at load uses less power for workload.
