I can't wait for mine to show up on Monday! I got a Supermicro X9SRL-F and 64GB of RAM so it should make one heck of a plexmediaserver :)
I got the same combo to use as my ESX AIO ... still waiting on the rest of the components to filter in, going to be a fun project!

Looks like the 4 Node may not be happy with 8 running 100%... might have to go back to 2660's if anyone wants to trade I'd need 6.

Still room to fall...
2670 C2 (2.6Ghz 8 Core)
Intel/英特尔 XEON E5-2670 八核 CPU C2 取代I7-3930K! 支持X79
¥ 560.00 = $85 USD

Here in Canuckistan it is usually cheaper to pay shipping from China than Fargo.

A quick tour through Taobao in seach of gold...

¥ 750.00 ( CAD 159.23) - 113.85 USD
E5-2637 V2 QD73 (3.2 Ghz 4 Core)

SR1B7

¥ 780.00 ( CAD 165.60)- 118.40 USD
INTEL XEON E5-2643 ES V2 (3.5 Ghz 4 Core)
I can't find the stepping...

¥ 880.00 ( CAD 186.83) - 133.56

E5 2660V2 ES 2.1G 8 Core
No stepping listed...

When they list the motherboards it can be made to run on, I guess very early stepping ;)

¥ 999.00 ( CAD 212.09) - 151.55USD
Intel XEON E5 2692 V2 ES 2.3G/30M/1600 115W B1 QD0Y
Picture shows SR0H8 so C1

A 12 Core

¥ 1000.00 ( CAD 213.70) - 151.70USD
INTEL XEON E5-2660 V2 10 core 2.1G
SR1AB production.

Getting closer...

¥ 1100.00 ( CAD 233.53 ) - 166.87USD
INTEL XEON E5-2630 V3 8 core 2.2G QS
SR206 production.

V3 ..How did this sneak in here ? Where are my fancy V2's?

¥ 1199.00 ( CAD 254.55) - 181.92USD
INTEL XEON E5-2670 V2 10 core 2.3G
QDNR

closer...

¥ 1500.00 ( CAD 318.45) - 227.59USD
INTEL XEON E5-2680 V2 8 core 2.8G
C0 - SR1A6

first sign of a V2 with nice single threaded speed and core count.
Lots of sellers for these at the same price.

¥ 1950.00 ( CAD 413.99) - 295.87USD
Intel XEON E5-2650 V2 2.6G 8C
SR1A8 production

First sign of production V2 with the same characteristics as our beloved V1 2670

I haven't been tracking V2 prices on fleabay so I can't compare but it seems like China leads North American fire sales by enough of a percentage the the bigger buyers can buy in the 1000 lot and resell a few at a time for a fair markup on fleabay. Singly shipping, finding a chinese broker, and risk probably don't make it compelling purchase except for the occassional nugget of gold.

I don't see anything to make me not want to just buy another handful of 2670's yet.

I know people who've purchased from the Chinese site / importers and it's hit or miss as far as does it work does it not work is it missing caps is it this or that... not really worth the risk when you can pay 10% or so more on ebay if you pay attention and then you have a warranty from ebay basically. That also doesn't take into account the wait time if it comes slow-mail, or the $40+ shipping if it comes air/3-5 day, etc...

Unless you have a connection that can guarantee _something_ you want and you need larger quantities I don't think the risk is worth it myself :)

Taobao is China's ebay. Like ebay if the seller doesn't tell you the stepping or the picture doesn't match the spec it's a pretty good clue that you should move on.

Most will provide a clear picture of the CPU so that you can read the code.

There are some v3 models that are a good deal in China that haven't trickled down to North America.

As I noted in my last post I didn't see anything in the bargain bin worth jumping on.

I buy from Asia Pacific when it makes sense. I have only purchased from larger sellers where I understood what I was buying and have never had a problem. That's doesn't mean that you won't. I often find them easier to work with than Americans ;)

Thanks for sharing. It's always good to have another option to look at when sourcing parts :)
