I thought SR0H8 is C1 stepping. VT-x is supported but VT-d wasn't until SR0KX which is C2.

At 179 each, if you could send them back without loosing money I would. At 129 I don't really mind loosing VT-d that much

I have 2630 v2s my main box. So I may swap them out since I don't need vt-d on that box.

Perhaps we can use some actual data in this thread ...

2x E5-2670 (physically marked as SR0H8) in a Supermicro X9DR3-F, BIOS v3.2a, VT-d enabled in the BIOS.

Boot to 2012R2, run CPU identification tools ..

CPU-Z reports:

AIDA64 reports:

HWiNFO reports:

Boot to ESXI 6, look at the ability to passthrough hardware..

Verification that VT-d is in fact operational ?

Did you try and pass through something and see if it works? Your's are the C1 chips like for sure.
Sandy Bridge-E VT-d Broken In C1 Stepping, Fixed In C2 Stepping, Shortly After Launch | techPowerUp

I am just hoping that the speed of these will be able to fix my issue trasncoding VC-1 blurays in plex (single threaded). The 1.8Ghz of my 2450L's and the 2.0ghz of my 2620 doesn't cut it. If it doesn't I will have to build a E5-1620 system just for plex...

I'm right there with you as I just turned up a new E5-1630 v3 for that purpose.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to get a pair of the C2 stepping and send these back. Love this forum...

I didn't .. I figured if ESXI gives me the option to passthrough that would be enough. I'll test it though over the next day or so and update this thread.
Well, I did continue the testing, no surprises, passthrough on ESXI works as expected. I dropped a SAS2308 HBA into the system, installed 2012R2 as a VM and passed the HBA to the VM.

ESXI passthrough:

2012R2 VM settings configured for passthrough device:

2012R2 VM Device Manager:

MSM on 2012R2 VM:

I think that I can now draw the conclusion that VT-d is in fact operational on the SR0H8 ... at least on the units that I have.

Thanks for testing it! I'll have to play around with it a bit in ESX before I move over from the E5-2450L setup.

Good news is it seems that the E5-2670 should meet my Plex VC-1 transcoding needs. My X5650 system (2.6ghz) transcodes them fine.
