Today started testing my E5-2670 on my crippled X79 motherboard that only operates on dual channel mode.

Got really nice CB15 score on windows 10...

This cpu makes 3GHz all day on all cores rendering in luxrender :)

It only throttles under prime95 because package power exceeds 115W it was as low as 2.7GHz

esisoinc, i can vouch for them. my chips came from him/them and they were packaged perfectly and work great.

i'm using a 660w platinum psu and it's likely overkill so depends
Thanks gigatexal for feedback on EBay seller with undamaged chips and good packaging.
(Very important for us overseas buyers)
Thanks again :)

Oh my...I just wanted to come back and report on this experience I had tonight because I've been pulling my hair out over this.

So I got some more replacement X9DRD-7LN4F-JBODs in. 2 of the 3 are fine, 3rd had bent pins, that makes 4 out of 5 boards, but that's not the highlight.

The second board I tested tonight, the IPMI simply isn't working and I have no idea what the hell is going on. I try everything, updated BMC firmware, issued cold reset and complete factory default resets, swapped some jumpers, tried making sure cables didn't need to be plugged in before the "failover" setting worked...but then I noticed, the MAC address is completely zero'd out. I haven't actually encountered this before on any of the other 7LN4F boards or on these random X9DR7-LN4F-O boards I also have. I was honestly stumped because the "IPMI LAN link status" was showing "No connect" even though the port LEDs were lit and blinking.

But damn did that take me a few hours to notice. Luckily I ran across a post at serverfault,

IPMI MAC address all zeros after update

Guy suggested using ipmiutil to re-assign the MAC address and as soon as I did that, bam, I can get to the IPMI interface through the web client and IPMIView.

Thank GOD. Saved me the "pain"(lol yeah right)of having to tell the guy that I'm going to be shipping him back 2 more boards of the 3 he sent me.

@Boddy i should add they weren't shipped in plastic processor clamshells but in an antistatic baggie with a pink foam adding to protect the bottom but then those were shipped in a cubed cardboard box with tons of padding so i was rather impressed

AHHH haha, maddening!

So what did you do simply assign a new 12 digit hex MAC or look at another IPMI MAC addy off another similar board and slightly change/assign to the zero'ed out one using ipmitool and then it came online? Interesting/useful follow- up for arcane issue. Not affecting me directly but has me curious so thx for anyone else who may benefit from this tidbit of knowledge shared!

There's a sticker on the board that says IPMI with what looks to be a mac address so I just used that. How the Mac address got like that to begin with is beyond me. It's amazing to think how long it was like that and whoever using it simply didn't notice or wasn't using the IPMI at all. The IPMI isn't even usable in shared mode since the virtual interface still needs a mac addy.

That's good and reassuring to know that SM puts a sticker of the MAC identified as IPMI on the board. Bet my method would work as well though granted you stayed w/in the vendors starting MAC id string and did not have a MAC conflict on your broadcast network (what are the odds/chances of you getting two SOO identically/closely manufactured boards that this would NOT work is slim to nil in my book)

IE: (using a VMware MAC cause I know what those start w/)
00:50:56:00:11:22 (orig board you intend to closely mimic it's IPMI MAC addy)
00:50:56:00:11:23 (fixed up IPMI addy off zero's out IPMI MAC addy board)

Just curious - anyone with some idle power consumption figures with these chips? I'm tempted to consolidate from 2x L5630 to single E5-2670

2x E5-2670 chips, with RDIMMS in all slots(mix of 4GB and 2GB DIMMs for testing purposes), with 1 Intel S3500, 1 3.5" disk, and x1 supermicro 502W platinum PSU shows ~123W-125W idle power consumption in the IPMI. 836TQ chassis with 7 fans plugged in(two 2U active HSF with the 5 chassis fans, 80mm I think, fans set to "PUE" mode), CPU set to maximum performance in BIOS.

Would like some input from you fine gents. I emailed comp-tec today, the seller of the JBOD boards, and reported the board with bent pins. At first it seemed like they would be as reasonable as they have been in the past. I asked if they still had some spares to swap out with, they said yes, and then when I said okay let's do a swap, I get a reply saying "are you positive about the bent pins? Me and my manager checked these before they went out and even shipped them with sinks on, I know my manager isn't going to be happy about a third RMA. I'm guessing I need more pictures...".

I was a little irked but could sort of understand the concern. By the way, the same socket that has bent pins also has a CPU load plate that isn't staying on the socket lever... see here: https://i.imgur.com/foq23yJ.jpg

I can't tell if it was just a manufacturing defect or what but basically the hook on the bottom with the locked-lock symbol doesn't hold the socket lever inside of it. I can still close the plate down but I have to use a lot of pressure to get the lever into the fastening latch.

I'll tell you guys what I told him, I can't make this stuff up. I've been doing this crap for years. Stressed the importance of a fully functional cpu socket, etc. So the manager said, it's not that he doesn't believe me but he is in the middle. I'm guessing he meant he is getting crap from his boss.

I got my RMA return label from them and dropped it off. Notified them that I dropped it off. Typically I've heard from them same day that they prepared a new shipment but didn't today.

I'm wondering if I should just cut my losses at this point and tell them to refund me for this one board.

I don't really like being treated like they say they believe me but I'm not really sure they do. Not gonna lie, this board with messed up pins honestly looks like one of the ones I already got in my first shipment, but I don't remember.

I already have enough boards for my project but I was really wanting the JBOD boards because they have all solid capacitors. So now I have 4x JBOD boards and 2x X9DR7-LN4F which has all solid caps but an electrolytic cap near the SAS ports. Just kinda worried that cap will bulge and swell one day making the whole board unsuable.

What would you gentlemen do in my situation?

After two busted boards in a row I got so aggravated I just went ahead and ordered something brand new. I don't think I would ever deal used again for motherboards unless I knew the dealer was good. For me its not worth the aggravation. If I didn't need it I would probably ask for my money back.
