Marsh, you're tha man! Search both of those e5-4xxx parts you mentioned and they are all above $600...lol. guess I missed the boat on those?

Anyway, here's e5-2658 v3 for $218:

Intel Xeon E5 2658 V3 ES 2.0Ghz 30MB 12 Core 22nm 105W LGA2011-3 Processor CPU | eBay

and it's faster than 2680v2 for both single and multithread:

2680 v2: User System Performance Results - UserBenchmark

2658 v3: UserBenchmark: Intel Xeon E5-2658 v3

if it wasn't for the still cheaper ddr3 compared to ddr4, we wouldn't be talking about v2 cpu anymore with the recent increase in price....lol....
Sorry man, "userbenchmark" is pretty useless and anyone with basic knowledge about Intel micro architecture would know that haswell cores have little over Ivy-bridge! So no way in hell that a sucky es with a max multi of 23 would even come come close on single threaded performance against a E5-2680 V2 that has a single core turbo bin of 36!

Can you post a cinebench 15 of multi and single treaded performance?

I was talking about multithread.... i am a multithread by default person....lol.... I use my cpu to calculate pi and run cinebench which are all multithread anyway...

Black hole with internet
Hello everybody ,
I have been reading this thread for days and the other threads related to the Intel board S2600CP2J, because I have almost no experience with the server boards, and I ordered this intel model to build my workstation.
I took this board becuse it was cheapest that I could find to have 2x2011 CPUs(150$ with US shipping). It should work as a workstation not as a server.
Now I need to order my other components.
This build will be used for everyday things and I need to run 2-3 Linux systems in same time over VMware workstation(don't know any other way, VBox don't like problems with setup) on Win 10 as host . I am very new to this WMware use.
CPUs that I want to buy are E5 2650L or E5 2650L V2 , nice number of cores and I don't do to much demanding things at the same time, and I would like to see that the consumption and the heat small as possible , and I dont think I need more then 32GB/64 of RAM.
Question about RAM , for optimal performance I read that it is best to have number of modules as CPUs memory channels , in this case that should be 4 times for each CPU , that means 8 modules of RAM. Should I go for RAM on 1333 or 1600 Is there a visible difference in usage? Is it maybe better to get 4x8GB two for each CPU and later got more RAM, or go for 8x4GB on start.
PSU I have is one on picture , it has shot cables but I have ordered extension cables 8pin and 24pin, think it should be good enough for this build.
I don care about case since I want to go as cheap sa possible in the beginning. It will be out of case for some time.
Is there anything that I should pay attention with this build?
I want to know what you guys think about this. Any suggestion is welcome.
I come from non-English area so please forgive me if there are mistakes in writing.

PS. Hope putting this here is no problem , or should I open new Thread

You should go for a V2, and you can get 14900 (1866mhz memory for almost the same price as 1333mhz or 1600mhz). There is no reason to go for a L cpu. They have low clock speed for one reason, and that is for rack cabinets/rooms with poor cooling. It would be much more power efficient to just get a single 2680 V2. You get better overall performance too and no NUMA overhead.

You find plenty of 16GB 14900r modules at 60 USD with sellers that has more than 4 modules. The cheapest I find for 12800r is 57 USD and 52 USD for 10600R. Even 8500R now costs over 40 USD. I got a few of them for just 25 USD one year ago.

Samsung M393B2G70DB0-CMA 16GB PC3-14900R 2RX4 ECC Server Memory FREE SHIPPING | eBay

16GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800R 2Rx4 DDR3L SDRAM Server Memory | eBay

Samsung 16GB PC3L-10600R DDR ECC Reg VLP RAM Memory M392B2G70BM0-YH9 (EX1) | eBay

For 8GB modules the price is almost exactly 50% of 16GB modules, so not worth it in my opinion.

If I go for 16gb modules it will bo too much money for me if I need more modules.

That PSU is only 520 W..... Don't know what video card you will have but 520W is only good for running a dual cpu and MB and storage by itself with the onboard video.

If you putting in anything half decent like at least a gtx950, really need to go for at least 700W.... Also, make sure to get a psu with dual 8pin CPU power cable since that MB need it.... what's the brand name of the psu? definitely don't want get cheap on psu for these kind of hardware...

I already own this supermicro PSU from the link, got used one for like 20$, but thanks for suggestions .
I looked your links and bought the one from your links EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B2 110-B2-0750-VR 80+ BRONZE 750W it is great deal now for 69.99 , you have 10$ mail rebate to on that price but I don't think I can use that.

EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B2 110-B2-0750-VR 80+ BRONZE 750W Semi Modular Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply - Newegg.com

I don't think I can use 10yr warranty since I am not from US, so warranty is nothing important at this moment.

Thanks again

2680 V2. is way too expensive here and now. it is $150 in China and will be under $100 next year.

it;s all suupplier dependent. until we get a supplier that goes $150 or $100 , it will stay at what it is now..
