I believe the 'SQ' at the end of the product name stands for Super Quiet, and those PSUs are supposed to be so in comparison to the usual 'aircraft engine' sounding PSUs. I think you are right on getting it as that is exactly what you want for a homelab.
Yup SQ for Super Quiet. Yup, the older PSU is loud as hell and a aircraft turbine pretty much. It's nice and quiet in my closest right now. The loudest thing now is the 3x 80mm Delta's in the chassis

Picked up a pair for $50 each for my home server. Replaced the 2630L's that were in there previously. Oddly enough, temps went down, fans spun down so system is quieter and idle power consumption dropped too (assume due to lower fan speed). Couldn't be happier with the upgrade.

I bought the Vantec USB 3.0 card off Amazon, the Anker one was pure garbage with Windows 10. It works like a champ, Got much better performance, and rock solid drivers.

Best of all it was $20

Any advice on which motherboard to get and heatsink? Looking to put together a desktop
A used Dell precision T5600 of ebay.
I got one with Dual E5-2670, 32GB memory, an old quadro gfx card, 500Gb hdd, win7 dell oem sticker on the machine.
$500 and just under $40 in shipping.

Would be hard to build anything like it for that price.
(Remember to put SSD on the sata1 port, not on HDD0, HDD0-4 is sas in sata mode, and only 3gbps, so good for spindledrives)

Btw is it worth getting the t5600 mobo by itself? Can reuse old parts for the rest. Just wondering because it doesn't come with the I/O shield and Dell usually has the problem with the front panel connections.

I believe the motherboard is made for the specific case, and I believe that Dell also dont use standard 24p mb power connectors.
Might be an issue getting it installed in a different case

That's what I thought. But the full unit costs so much more with a lot more junk. I'm seeing $600 for a single CPU and a crappy K600. That means I still need to find a second HSF. The dual CPUs start at $900 and half the time come with 2609s.
