IF these drives turn out to be the Hitachis that we've been buying lately

I got one from the 2nd batch of those 100GB drives and apparently wound up with: HUSSL4010BSS600. It looks like A was their 34nm process while B is the new 25nm SLC.

The 200GB is an A thou in which I bought a few days later.

Some good info on these drives from SR here that detail some of the differences. Hitachi Ultrastar SSD400S.B Enterprise SSD Review | StorageReview.com - Storage Reviews
Yeah I got one of each as well, I didnt realize they were different processes/batches other than a small firmware update I figured...good to know. They are great lil' devices in my book...I 'almost' like them more than my obsession w/ s3700's...ALMOST. :-D

I'm not going to have a chance to actually test mine for a bit, but mine just arrived. The only markings are a serial number, and the following part number. PN: 0b26554aa1527_j04115031l

0b26554aa1527 bring up this listed in germany
EMC² CLARiiON 118032871-A01 HGST HUSML4040ASS600 400GB SSDM-SAS 6Gb/s 0B26585

with this link (that does not work)
Resources | HGST

edit: found this PDF from the part # in the non-working link

https://www.hgst.com/sites/default/files/resources/USSSD400M_DS.pdf

taken from the PDF

Unlimited reads, up to 7.3PB Writes (400gb)

Performance Read Throughput (max MB/s, sequential 64K) 495
Write Throughput (max MB/s, sequential 64K) 385
Read IOPS (max IOPS, random 4K) 56,000
Write IOPS (max IOPS, random 4K) 24,000

not the fastest on IOPS but my expectations might be too high for enterprise class drives.

Mine just arrived. Same as Naeblis noted, except that the ending on the p/n is different... mine ends in _J0412001XY -- but the second one ends in "QZ". Did not look at the other two.

I've not handled Enterprise SSDs in the past, but I have to say, these are dense/heave- much moreso than I've experienced in consumer ones.

Looking forward to trying them out :)

Naeblis- good research/find, thank you!

I can confirm also.

I opened one of the eight that came today ( :) ) and it had the PB# E78093-003 inside. If you check the SR Pic in the SSD400M review, these are the same drives minus two things:
1. There is no HGST label / warranty.
2. The round sticker on the side opposite the SAS connector is missing from these drives.

Let us hope NewEgg gets more (and someone send me a note if they see more of these!)

Edit: Here is the internal shot via mobile phone camera:

@Marsh you may have snagged the best deal of the year.

Well that's great news. Fantastic deal for a SAS SSD then. Glad I bought some.

I do not want to ask how many... I saw you had some Toshibas up on ebay.
I think he confessed 16 but who knows :p

My sc216 sits eerily mostly empty :-( What am I sayin' w/ 60 chassis drive slots that's easy to do! My norco 4224 may be on the chopping block here soon as I can pull funds to build a Xeon-D system.

Have you guys seen a place to download the firmware for these drives yet? I'm about to connect my 4 to see what they show up as. Great deal OP!

I've registered on Hitachi's site but in order to access the flash only downloads you need to register a product and none of my previous drives, from ebay work, or the ones from Newegg.

So you are looking at ebay pictures to get a usable serial number/ part number?

I'm using the serial numbers off the drives I've bought off eBay lately in which one drive was used but the other brand new. The drop down list that has the available flash drives to chose from, when registering, doesn't even have the S400 series listed which is odd right?

Here's a few tests on the drives I've bought this week ;)

Newegg refurbs MLC

Like @Patrick said I'm really hoping more of these show up in stock and I can beat @dba in snatching a few more :D

Is it fair to assume that 8 of these in SW raid-10 (stripped mirrors) would just abt tap a LSI 2008 6Gbps gen adapter?

Very nice @Naeblis

It's so funny I was just talking to my wife this morning and bitching about not buying 8 drives because of not wanting to eat too much $$ if they turned out crappy.
