So you guys are doing $160 for motherboards, $140 for processors, $23 for the RMM4_LITE modules = $323? I have so many 4GB DIMMs that it is an intriguing proposition.

using best prices we all got looks like

150$ for a board
70-75$ for CPU since it is UP board
15$ for the RMM4_LITE modules

so worse case 240$

BTW if you are interested in dual socket it looks like the seller has some dual E5-2400 boards for around the same price as these single socket ones so might be intersting to see if you put an offer in what you might be able to get them for

Examples are:
Intel BBS2400SC2 S2400SC2 Server Board SSI CEB Socket B2 95W DDR3 ECC New Only | eBay

Intel BBS2400GP4 S2400GP4 SSI EEB Socket B2 DDR3 Server Board New Board Only | eBay

best bet for this seller if looking for 1356 stuff is to do a search on "Socket B2" they have a number of other items as well

Thank you Patrick for introducing LGA1356 platform. I read your article last year and sending me to hunt for LGA1356 part.

Different subject, I noticed that there is a lot more cheap LGA2011 parts now.
Within last week.
Purchased 2 x Tyan TYAN S7066 (S7066M3NR) dual lga2011 board for $100 each.
1 x TYAN S7066 (S7066GM3NR) dual lga2011 with SAS controller onboard for $140 each.
It will hold lots of 4gb ram.

One thing to watch with those is that the Intel motherboards are often designed for their chassis and have different connectors/ layouts for power cables and such.

The RMM4_LITE I got for $14 + 9 shipping = $23. $6 did not work.

@Nelius
Which cpu are you planning to use?
I got a couple of E5-2418L cpus from the same seller as you.
Performance should be reasonable for my use.

I also got a couple of AXXRMM4 + AXXRMM4Lite modules @ $25 each from the same seller that has the motherboards. Had to get the version with a dedicated NIC since you guys had allready bought all the AXXRMM4Lite modules. Heres the auction for anyone interested:

Intel AXXRMM4R Remote Management Module with AXXRMM4LITE Lite Module New Pull | eBay

I cant figure out whether i need the AXXRMM4Lite to get the AXXRMM4 working? Seems strange if i do need it. If i dont need it, well i guess i've got a couple of AXXRMM4Lite modules to sell.

I think that you could just plug in the AXXRMM4Lite and not have to plug in the dedicated nic if you dont want, which will then use the onboard nic. the AXXRMM4Lite is required either way if i am reading the documentation correctly.

With this motherboard, are you folks using UDIMM or RDIMMs? I know both have been validated by Intel (in certain combinations per the technical document) but wondering if there is any benefit of going one way or another (other than cost).

FYI, the Intel also work with desktop ram without ecc, I used desktop ram during initial power up test.
keep in mind, I use the server for fun and prototype, so any cheap ram onhand for me.
