That chassis already has an expander backplane so you don't need one of these. What you should consider is a RAID card or HBA with 6Gb support to connect to the expander on your chassis.Would I need one of the above expander to link my Supermicro Motherboard X8DTi-F with HDDs in my 3U Supermicro 16 bays Storage Server Chassis SC836E26-R1200 SAS2-836EL2?
What are your suggestions? I'm thinking of running a raid set up. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Aestr for your feedback. Saves me spending money on stuff I would actually need. Much appreciated. That chassis already has an expander backplane so you don't need one of these. What you should consider is a RAID card or HBA with 6Gb support to connect to the expander on your chassis.
The card gets its power from either the PCIe connector or the Molex connector, and I've used both options without issues. No need to connect both. It allows for quite a lot of flexibility, both in power options as well as cabling options.does the PCIe 8x slot pwr this card or did I really need to molex 4 pin pwr the thing as well?
