Looking for some advice on Intel SAS Expanders

Intel RES2CV240 - around $270 says 24 port expander but looks like 7 sff-8087 connections right angle to pcb

Intel Intel RES2SV240 - around $300. looks like 6 sff-8087 connectors that are parallel to pcb

Is the C model really only 24 ports? What is the 7th connector? Or just configuration and price differences?

I recently went through a similar search, and I settled on the RES2SV240 ($269 on Amazon) due to better mounting options for my case (Norco). AFAIK from the specs I read they both use the same LSI controller. Most of the pictures I have seen of the RES2CV240 have been of the 36-port version and have 9 connectors, even though they say they are the 24-port. I doubt your system would realize any difference so I would go for the one that mounts best for you.

For what it's worth, I copied the mounting placement used by another member. Works perfect for me.

thx for advice. Happen to know why the other "24 port" one has 7 connectors?

No. Didn't think it did, but that would make it a 28-port. Surely someone has one and will comment on it. Where did you see pics with 7 connectors?

I have the SV as pictured by White-Hot and it has the ability to be powered via the PCIe slot or the Molex. The ports are in line with the cards PCB. The CV has the ports pointing out from the PCB (i.e. if the card is mounted flat on the chassis bottom then the ports point up) and it can only be powered by a Molex.

The 24 port CV is the first pictured here. The 36 port CV is the second.

My SV worked 'out-of-the-box' as soon as it was connected to my LSI controller and I am very happy with it.

Ah, so it does only have 6 connectors. I too have been very pleased with the SV. A nice plus for me was it came with 6 cables (4 long 2 short) that fit my case perfectly in the current configuration.

Yep, I believe that is the standard package.

I got mine from another member here and it also came with the cables.

Hooked up to a LSI 9202-16 at the moment and Solaris 11 has no issues.
