@BackupProphet it also says it requires a latest-gen CPU and chipset, not any system with M2... not sure if that's 100% accurate, but it is optane so it's likely true. I cancelled mine, figured if I'm gonna try it out may as well get the 32GB once available :) and that will align better with my new v6 setup timing.

This must be the perfect ZIL for ZFS! Im gonna get one for sure! Only one problem, I only have one system with M2 :(
As far as I have heard, the optane series are mostly made for read purposes? It might be good too for ZIL but I guess the guys on the freenas forums would toast you because it doesn't have battery backup :D

There's another thread and homepage article Patrick did testing these... not really gonna work for ZFS, or anything useful IMO

@T_Minus hopefully later today I will have a good use case on this, databases.

And on ZFS, remember, 100GB/ day write endurance. If you have a small 4-bay NAS with 4x 4TB, for example, and 8TB usable, are you really writing more than 100GB/ day on average?

Also, for web hosting, these are pretty awesome actually.

Who would use a 32GB drive instead of 32GB RAM for a DB though? Curious about the database use case none the less.

I don't see the super low latency of Optane being a bonus when you're going through a network and ultimately "the internet", I really wonder if 30us vs 10us make a difference in that situation? Looking forward to see those results :)
