Hi All,

Recently build a home server that needs to run Win Svr 2019 or 2022

Build is:
Intel Core i9 11900k
Asus ROG Maximus Xiii Hero Mobo
2 x Sabrent 500gb m.2 HDD (Fast Mirror Storage)
4 x WD NAS spinning rust 6tb (Slow Mirror Storage)
2 x Samsung SSD (System Disk)
2 x 16gb Corsair DDR4 3200Mhz
be quite! cooler

This system has built and fires up and works perfectly with Win10/11 but I need to run Server 2019/22. When you install Svr19/22 the NIC drivers do not work, i have tried downloading the intel drivers from their website, the asus website and using the "crate" software.

I came to the conclusion that I am not going to be able to use this Mobo/CPU with Win Svr - I suspect its due to the Z590 chipset on the board supporting the 11th Gen Intel CPU and it being just a little bit too new.

I am now looking at what Mobo and CPU to replace them with - I want to be able to retain the other components of the build and stay with s1200 so I dont need a new cooler.

Can anyone suggest a CPU and Mobo combination that will allow me to run Win Server, I don't need:

Wifi
RGBW lights
2.5 gig network/rj45

I am considering moving to Xeon instead, but the vast array of Xeon chips confuses me so looking for guidance - similarly if anyone has a board that will support the 11th Gen Intel i9 and Win Server drivers, that would be perfect.

Price range, motherboard under £450 GBP and CPU under £370 GBP (OEM)

Any advice is massively appreciated - thanks!

Why not just get something like a 40gb/s Mellanox connectx-3 off ebay for $30 bucks if the only thing that doesn't work is the NIC?

probably Asus Crate is not supported under Win Svr 2019.
generaly it is a bad idea using vendor specific software for server OS.

can also be a issue with the intel 2,5GB chip, there are buggy ones arround, and some drivers work, some not.
change to a different mboard, avoid the intel 2,5GB chips.
