For anyone that missed the main site post: http://www.servethehome.com/40gbe-intel-fortville-xl710-networking/

Intel is/ has launched dual 40GbE (QSFP+) adapters that run at 7w and can be split into 4x 10GbE on each QSFP+ port (so 8x 10GbE from a single card for 7w).

I know a lot of folks are playing around with 10GbE gear here, and software defined networking and storage.

What are your plans for this new generation?

And yes... the real life versions are amazing.

Holy cr@p batman. Really? My jaw is still stuck on the floor from having dropped there. Wow.

+1 on the storage + networking convergence box.

When is said "official date" for when you can reveal your additional information on these?

Do you know if the x520 series will also be shifting to the smaller process too? The idea being using 1 or 2 x710 cards in a storage system with client machines (i.e. C6100 nodes) using x520 cards.
This could make for fantastic SAN setups without having use Infiniband.
Also, depending on the price point, this could very much bring 10GB/s to the home(lab) on masse.

One other use case is a headless compute cluster accessing SSD based storage.

"Unknown" on the date but IDF 2014 is generally a time that I would expect Intel to do several releases.

On the x520 update - I would say that this is unlikely. There is a X710 dual port 10GbE part linked in the main site article.

Canada Eh?
Article content is repeating for me.

Price point is going to be key for sure. But that is damn impressive. Would be nice if someone would get 10GBase-T power usage under control as well.

I've only just realised that the x520 series is from '09! So it is due for replacement. However, I thought that replacement was with the x540 series starting in '12 with a second card last year.

If the x710 series can get 10GBe-T under 10W/port (if they could offer one) as well that would be incredible! The best offering so far is the x540-T2 which still sits at 13.4W

Also, an update: Prices have been put on the ARK site.

Well, the other side is that you also need a 10GBase-T switch.

I updated. Looks like a STH exclusive. Got a note from Intel that they took down the pages.

Was there any mention if these would support some form of RDMA like RoCE or iWARP?
