I have been planning on upgrading to 10gb SFP+ backbone, and while being busy with other things, I came across the HPE Intel E810-XXVDA2 as it is cheaper here than 710 etc at 190€. While it is 25gb, it should support 10gb as well. As the 710 supports 2,5/5gb without documentation on it, I like to hear if that is also the case for the 810?
Anything I should be aware of?
If I for the time being connect a slot on each to a 10gb switch, can I link the HTPC and server directly with a 25gb DAC cable, or will that not make a difference over 10gb?
I can see Level1 also dabbled in 25 gb coupling in one video, but I did not understand what/how he did it.

I was planning to get a cheap China sfp+ switch, Mikerlink/ or Sodola.

E810 is just upgrade over x710
It does support 10gb, just need proper sfp for it.
if you have compatible sfp module with support of those 2.5/5Gig - it will work. *The switch needs to advertise it though.

I think some of the skus were problematic because they didn't support lower speeds or using qsfp28 to sfp28 adapters...

The 810 does use a bit more power vs the 710. It's not a huge difference, but if you're counting every last watt.....

I don't but they will be on 24/7, so it is a consideration.

I've ordered 2 used inexpensive x520-da2 to get it going with 10gb sfp+ and some China switches and DACs.
I'll likely get a new HPE x710-da2 for the server, and later it can be moved to a (Tiny) router box, as it will never benefit from 25gb, but will save me power.

Found the HPE 710 for 165€ so settled for that and the items below.

maybe you should look at mellanox instead *(they are more allowing in terms of sfp's branding)?
