My point was that plugging own sale thread in the great deals post is only relevant (and acceptable?) if the price of the item is comparable to the deal being discussed.
lol. who comes up with these rules?
The post is "relevant" because we're talking about 2696's.

No, your post really isn't relevant. It's generally regarded to be in poor form to pitch your own stuff here. That is what the FS section is for. Feel free to PM one of the mods if you disagree.

You're also asking $780 for an ES CPU when retail goes for hundreds less on eBay. Hardly a deal even if it were appropriate to post here.

It is not a rule I expect to be enforced. It is just my own understanding of the purpose of this subforum.
Which is to post deals by third party vendors. The restriction comes from the obvious conflict of interests of claiming that your own sale is a "great deal". The exception would be referring to your own sale in a reply to support an argument like this - "I do not think this is a great deal. Because I have the same (or a compatible) item at much better price point right here (and it still sits unsold)".

But your item is not compatible and it is being sold at much higher price. So in my opinion your for sale post reference does not belong to this thread.

$777 for that CPU is over priced for ebay, and especially here. People don't take kindly to seeing prices 100$s over ebay ;)

Aside from that pricing... the E5-2697 is $350-450 the last 12 months with better pricing here or there, on ebay... not a "Great Deal" this CPU has 1000 less passmark than yours, and higher single-core rating but is full retail, not ES and not QS.

I have to say i agree. I did pay $650 for my 2696 v3 qs back in 2017/8. Seeing $777 that's a little overpriced given that the ebay link i quoted earlier for $520 is actually for what looks like an oem release so even better than QS. There was at one point months ago right before ryzen came out, the price of these v3/v4 cpu was ludicrious..... like i think i saw examples of 2696v3 QS went for $1000 sold.....lol....

Obviously a seller can set any price they want, but if you want to sell you have to go by market price. unfortunately, i think he missed the boat.... I actually did consider selling mine at that point seeing how good the price was....lol...

Having said that, i guess even at $125, 2696 v2 is still not quite moving that fast. Interesting that 2667 v2 is about the same price (one of the fastest v2 cpu for single core aside from 2687 v2 with higher TDP). The 2690 v2 sits in the middle of 2667 v2 and 2696 v2 in term of single and multicore and is more expensive than both.

Price has gone down to $124. And make offer is also allowed now so you can get this at even lower price.

Show us where you can get this CPU (2696 v3) for substantially lower price. Keep in mind most if not all eBay sellers are non-US. E5-2697 v3 is 14-core, 2696 v3 is 18-core.

Passmark does not set the bench.

This QS is same stepping as production silicon.

This is a current listing for the 2699 v3 18 core 2.3-3.6ghz for $597 from a US seller right now: E5-2699v3 | eBay
the 2699 v3 is actually the retail non-oem one which has wider compatibility than the oem 2696 v3.

There was a listing 2696 v3 sold just a little while ago for $480 and a few days before that for $550: 2696 v3 | eBay

Just saying, you as a seller can set whatever price you want. But you are not gonna get anyone to buy yours unless you set it at market price. And you are certainly not gonna be able to get people to "upgrade" to "your 2696 v3" from 2696 v2 unless you set a good price....lol...

2699 is not the same as 2696, hence the different model number.

I say again: Show us where you can get this CPU (2696 v3) for substantially lower price.

That you don't see the value in the chip is fine. Let it go. It's not for you. Move along.

A production one sold for $450 today: Intel Xeon E5-2696 V3 OEM SR1XK LGA 2011-3 2.3GHz 18-Core CPU Processor | eBay

Either way, you have a 6 year old ES CPU. If you really want to see what it's worth, put it on eBay with no reserve and see what it sells for. I think most of us here would be surprised if you get more than a couple hundred for it.

If you want to continue this discussion, you should start your own thread in the appropriate subforum. This one is about $125 E5-2696 v2s, not your CPU.

^--- What they said.

You are also failing to take into consideration it doesn't matter if you have an ES or QS with Retail Stepping it's still NOT a retail CPU.

Does the CPU run on a TYAN S7050?
Don't know. There is a good chance it might. I think usually only intel declines OEM cpus (2696v2 is oem). At this low price, you don't have much to lose anyway. should order one. can always resell or get the asus z9pe MB which i know does work with it.
