Hello,

I have a ZFS mirror of 2 Crucial SSD (CT525MX300SSD1) which i am using to store Mariadb database. The drive lifetime is decreasing rapidly,
Code:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
202 Percent_Lifetime_Remain 0x0030 062 062 001 Old_age Offline - 38
Is DCS3700 a good choice for databases?

If so I am hoping to get a pair of 400GB refurbished drives from ebay.

For sata it's a "good" choice (s3710 is better and s4610 would be the best sata ssd).

Is this for a homelab/do you have constraints which devices you can use?

This is for homelab so cheaper is better. The physical constraint i have is that it needs to go into Supermico SC846 drive bay. I have a 3.5 to 2.5 inch adapter which is holding the Crucial drives.

In my search I also came across HGST drives like this. It seems to be much thicker, i am not sure whether SC846 bay can take it.

The rear bays? I think they support up to 15mm devices.

Edit: the hgst sas ssds are awesome (I'm using them a cache devices for hardware raid)

The SC846 has only the front trays. Unfortunately, I have no experience of the HGST drives, are they the same size as a regular 3.5 inch hard disk?

Also, is it better to use HGST over the Intel DC S3700 drives?

The husmm are 2.5" (15mm thick), the adapters/trays that you use for the s3700 should also work with the husmm.
The husmm have better specs and use a sas3 interface but come with netapp/emc firmware (when purchased from ebay).
If you get s3700 they can be original intel ones (not oem) which have free firmware downloads (&maybe warranty).

The husmm drives listed on ebay have titles like 'for Dell'/ 'for HP'. Is there a firmware limitation in any way i.e. will it stop me from using with the Supermicro server?

Nope, not that I'm aware of. I used the husmm in 846, 836 and 745 chassis with active and passive backplanes without problems

Seems there are bunch of model numbers and some models come with some sort of encryption and dont work out of the box. Do you mind sharing the model number which you are using?

Thanks. Any idea which is a better model between HUSMM1640ASS201 and HUSMM8040ASS200. Both are 400GB and SAS3, and priced similarly on Ebay.
