Has anyone seen a working LSI/PERC on a C20x chipset?
Different card but I have just flashed a M1015 for a client with the IT firmware and it boots fine in the S1200KP board.

Update: The M1015 (LSi 9240-8i minus raid 5 without key) also works fine on the C204 chipset (Supermicro X9SCM-F).

Anyone able to confirm the max number of arrays you can setup on the C202/4/6 chipset boards. Is it limited to 1 or is there no limit with the onboard SATA controller ?

Thanks

Saw this on the supermicro website for the c204 board that I've got.
SATA 2.0 3Gbps with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10
SATA 3.0 6Gbps with RAID 0, 1
So I'm guessing that you could have 3 arrays (RAID 0), 2 on the sata 2 bus on one on the sata 3.

Anyone know if the C20x series chipsets can support the e3-12xx v2 chips? Will these chips enable the pcie 3.0 bus or are we going to need new MB's?

Are you referring to the Ivy Bridge S1155 Xeons? The P8B WS got an update to make it compatible with the IVB CPUs with BIOS 0904, iirc, so it's probably going to vary board by board.

Just spoke with someone at techsupport at supermicro, doesn't look like the C20x series boards will support the V2 xeons.

Look like the phone 'tech' didn't know what he was talking about. I emailed them:
I would like to know if there are plans to support the upcoming xeon e3-1200 v2 series of processors on the C204 chipset boards (specifically the super x9sca)? And if so will this processor upgrade support the new PCIe 3.0 standard?
This is what I got back from Supermicro:
Yes. But it will be in May when e3-1200 v2 (Ivy Bridge) launches. It is still in development and testing currently.

But it is only PCI-E gen 2 by spec, not support Gen 3.0

So yes on the v2 chips but a 'maybe?' on the Gen 3.0? Patrick what have you heard on these chipsets?

From what I have heard, I would not expect PCIe 3.0 to work on every LGA 1155 board from every vendor. My gut says we will see a lot of boards support Ivy Bridge.

Asus haven't released a BIOS update for their Asus C202/C204/C206 boards by the looks of things to fix an ACPI issue which prevents installation of Windows 8 or Server 2012. After an email to Asus they couldn't confirm if they will be releasing a BIOS update to fix the issue. I see SuperMicro have already done so for their boards.

I've got an Asus P8B-M, but due to wanting to run Server 2012 with Hyper-V instead of ESXi I may need to look at another motherboard. Bit of a pain, and the server boards are expensive locally, I might try out an Intel DQ77MK desktop board and see how that goes, pending if my 16GB of ECC will run in the board with a E3-1230.

Doesn't give me much faith in Asus server products thats for sure.

Question, can you put in an external GPU in a X9SCA-F and still use the IPMI as usual?

Hi, I am currently running a X9SCM-F with a Pentium G630 CPU, and I am thinking of upgrading to a E3-1275v2 would I get to use the GPU on the 1275 if I do this, or does the motherboard only support it's onboard GPU?

Try it with the G630 which has integrated graphics, if it works then the e3-1275 v2 will too

But, looking at manual, it seems not.
VGA dis/enable jumper looks to just turn off the VGA connector

VGA Enable
JPG1 allows you to enable or disable
the onboard VGA connector. The default
position is on pins 1 and 2 to enable
VGA. See the table on the right for
jumper settings.

Can anyone confirm if the Supermicro X9SCM-F has a bios chip that needs to be soldered or if it has a socket?

I've got a bricked board I only received from the USA yesterday after a bad BIOS flash :( Looks like I can order a replacement for around $30 from ebay.

I think it is soldered. Apologies since this was a few photography setups ago:
