Intel and Partners Discuss GPZ Variant 4 Speculative Store Bypass

Today Intel and industry partners disclosed a new vulnerability CVE-2018-3639, which is another side channel attack variant. This new CVE is being called "Variant 4", Speculative Store Buffer Bypass, or Speculative Store Bypass depending on who is discussing the vulnerability.

An additional 2-8% performance hit I assume over the new baseline ? Or 2-8% from the pre Spectre / meltdown state ? If the former then no wonder they leave it switched off by default !

I have a notebook i5-5300u that is fully patched to the latest firmware from HP with the patches and I have to say it’s gone from a really usable machine to something that seems to be deserving of the bin... does run bitlocker though. May do a reinstall of windows 10 to confirm if that helps but these patches are horrible
