wow all gone, I thought I would try another one for $100 but already gone. I am lucky to get one I guess.

There is this one: Intel A2U8X25S3HSDK 2U Hot-swap Drive Cage Upgrade Kit 8x2.5" NEW 735858288767 | eBay

I assume this one is just SAS.
I bought one of these (sas version) because I’m looking to upgrade my nas for speed and move past pcie 2 and sata 2 technology

for unraid or TrueNas, what would be the most effective use for this if I still plan to have 3.5” large capacity drives as well?
My use case is video streaming on lan (Plex) and small file storage for a family (photos, docs, scans). Most writes are large (“Linux iso”) files.

Would using 8x 2.5 hdd’s in raid 6 with ssd on sata as zil slog be more... “efficient” (?) than 4x2.5hdd’s with 4x2.5 ssd’s ; or 7x2.5’s with the 8th 2.5 as zil?

In case you guys don't know, kalleyomalley is known for accepting lowball offers. Years ago I got a killer deal on a high end fancy bidet from them.
And if they don't accept, they won't hesitate to send you a response like, "I paid $xx for these, so I have to make at least that much. Raise your offer above $xx so I can sell you one."

I got my 2.5" sas version today. Won't have time to set it up for a while. It has primary and secondary sas ports for each of the sides. Also, no fans so I don't know how this will get cooled without a fan block immediately behind it.

And man, they have a very interesting variety of stuff.

Computer parts, kids toys, and ladies swimwear/clothing. I have no idea what industry they're centered in.

I am having buyer's remorse here. I don't have time and need to do deal with these cages but I jumped on them as price was very good. I bought 2 enclosures:

and 3 oculus cable. It all costed me $270. I am happy to let them go for $270 + shipping OBO.

I believe the the backplane is interchangeable. I have not gotten around verifying it. I have one of each - a unit for 2u and a unit for 2x5.25 bay and a spare xxxxxxPHS backplane. One of these days, I’ll confirm. I can only test sas / sata drives. Dont have U2 drives.

On a related note, does anyone know if Intel will be making any similar bays that support PCIe Gen 4 NVMe?

Visually, it looks interchangeable though I have not tried either. Seller also had F2U8X25S3PHS, which, if the theory is correct, allows for a tri-mode upgrade on the cheap.

He still has the 1U equalivent in stock; Intel F1U8X25S3PHS 1U 8x2.5 inch SAS/NVMe Hot Swap Backplane NEW BROWN BOX 735858344890 | eBay
